I will be moving up to Cody, Wyoming in March of 2009 and I want to find out what the wait list is for Northwest College in Powell for the nursing program. Does anyone happen to know that information??? Thanks for your help.

Nursing programs in Wyo admit competitively - they don't really do waitlists. I have heard that the nsg program in powell gets alot of applicants b/c people from montana also try to get accepted there. good luck

Hey,,,,,, My wife and I fell for the bait and switch a the Powells Northwest college!!!!
I am not glad they can and still do this. We had to go up there and she was told she also was on the "list". You are to, just try to get a peek at the list! OR a straight answer as to how it works and where you are on it. She ended up taking more prerequisit classes that were indeed needed for the completion of the nursing course as a whole but at the summer betweent that year and the next one she was still on the "list" and really didn't know where or when she would actually get to start the exact nursing courses. That spring and summer she started trying to get into colleges with her present two years(casper college also had a "list" she started with them) and was qualified and accepted to enter the Riverton College with her completed courses, in the actual nursing course. Now once in the nursing course she completed and was a RN.
I got transfered with my company and all worked out well.
Sorry to hear this is still going on, keep up with them as we saw two local girls accepted with LESS credits than my wife, into the nursing course at Northwest while she waited for the list.
It might take some doing, but stick with it.

Not certain about Powell, but I know that Casper College has a waitlist....the colleges can only accept so many people into their programs each year and the number who apply far outnumber the number they can accept. CC is about 60 people each year (and they get at least 300 applications per year)....most colleges also require that you have a CNA license prior to getting into nursing school (I see the benefits, but I don't think it's necessarily appropriate....I had EMT experience when I went to college and I think it was plenty adequate....though they don't accept that as "experience" anymore).
My suggestion is contacting Northwest College's nursing administration, get your name on the back of their minds...the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" kinda thing....the more you contact them and let them know you're interested, your name will "stick out" when application time comes.
Good luck!
PS....I would send in your application sooner (January) rather than later.....most schools have a deadline (usually in March)

Speaking from experience, making a personal visit to the RN department at your college of choice can go a long way in helping you get your foot in the door. Make yourself known to the teachers, call/email them often, offer to help out around the department office if need be. Do whatever you can to become more than just a number or name on a list. Good luck!

In CO, when you get on the nsg school waitlist, you get assigned a number indicating where you are on the waitlist, i.e. how many people are ahead of you.
So I don't understand how the Wyo nsg school waitlists work......I was under the impression that they chose the 'top' candidates, although it seemed to me (when I applied) like there is alot of room for the 'powers that be' to just choose their 'favorites' regardless of qualifications. That is why I went to CO b/c their system seemed more fair. That was 7 years ago so maybe things have changed.

Is there a shortage for nurses in Wyoming? I have my nursing degree (LPN) and will soon have my English Ed degree, so it would be nice to have a possible summer job. Good luck to the OP. I know when I went to nursing school there wasn't much of a waiting list but that was here in Minnesota.
Best of luck!

From what I know about nursing schools, they do take the "top" students. These are the ones who have taken all of their pre-req classes and their entrance exams. The students with the highest grades get in first. Some go by GPA, others go by a point system. A=4, B=3, etc. Nursing school will kick your butt, so schools wanna make sure they are devoting their time and money to the ones who will tough it out and make it through. Good luck!!!
