I am moving to Sheridan, Wyoming from Boise, Idaho to support the National Guard unit while they deploy overseas. I will be the Rear Detachment Officer In Charge (OIC). It is an 18 month assignment. I will be travelling alone. My family will remain in Boise. I am looking for either a room for rent, an apartment to share, House sitting, etc. I am a Military Officer, Member of the Catholic Church and a Member of the Knights of Columbus. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Try Calling this number (307)673-1000. (Sheridan Realty Associates)There is a listing in the local Country Bounty for places to rent in Story. There is a studio for $600 a one bedroom for $600 and a two bedroom for $650 a month. Or call any of the local real estate companies here in Sheridan to see if they know of any other rentals in the area. You can also try calling Westpark Trailer Court (307) 674-4503 and ask Angel if there is any rentals in the court available or ask her about any that are empty and up for sale. The owners of the empties might consider renting for awhile especially to a military person. You can even call Wodland Park Village at (307)674-6713 and see if they have any rentals.
My Son-in-law will be one of the Guardsmen that will be leaving in April. I'll talk to him and see if maybe he might know of any of the guys being deployed with him that might have something you could stay in while they are deployed. You might even contact the National Guard here and see if they don't have some type of bullentin board to advertise on. Some of the men might currently be living in a rental that maybe you could take over renting while they are gone so they don't risk losing it and have nowhere to live when they first come back.
Just remember that rentals in the area are a little high and hard to come by. I'll keep you posted if I hear of anything. Good Luck!!
I talked to my son-in-law and right off he doesn't know of anyone that has a place for you to possibly stay. He said most of the guys he really knows that well are either married with a family or if they are currently in a rental have already got someone that will be staying in the rental while they are gone. He said he would keep his ears open though.
I'm not sure of any places, but you could try calling local churches as well. Try Holy Name Catholic Church: (307) 672-2848. I could list other churches as well, but you might be more comfortable talking to other Catholics.
And as an aside: thanks to you and your family for your service and love of our country!!!!!!!!!! You and your family are heroes!

Both Sheridan and Gillette are not huge cities that is for sure. Sheridan has around 25,000 in population. Gillette is maybe a bit smaller if not the same in population (at least the last that I knew anyways)
I can best tell you more about Sheridan than I can about Gillette. Sheridan is to me is quite a beautiful place to live. We have mountains near by, rolling hills, and prarrie land. The people are friendly, in fact it's not uncommon to have strangers wave at you as you pass. The schools here are fantastic, so if you have kids or will have kids growing up here, they will get a great education. We also have a local Community College that offers a wide range of classes. There is still a wide range of jobs available here and thanks to our current boom in the methane, the wages aren't to bad.
It lacks in the finer things, like a broad range of ethnic resturaunts, high end clothing stores, malls, and big fancy museums. But we do have a good amount of basic things, like Wal-mart, K-mart, several grocery stores, a movie theater, a drama theater, (with plays and musical productions) and a couple of really nice historical museums.
If you are over 21 years old there are plenty of places to go and drink, dance and hang out with friends. We also have quite a few churches from traditional to contemporary but all are mostly Christian based churches.
Sheridan has a realtively low crime rate. Mostly DUI's and minor break ins and vandalism. Our most recent violent crime where someone was killed has been several years ago. (it was quite a shame too, the gal that was killed was just fresh out of school or about to get out of school and she was hoping to go to college to be a psychatrist so she could help folks like the one who shot her. Her parents were also cops and it was her mother that was first on the scene. The guy was got a short time later.) Well enough about that, like I was saying the crime rate is low.
One thing though, the housing market right now is crazy high and rentals are pretty scarce and rent fees are high if you can find a place to rent.
The winters here are not to terribly cold. We do have times when we get below zero degrees ferenheit, but generally we usually sit right around freezing. We have fairly low humidity and that helps not make the cold not feel as cold. If you are from a warmer climate it will take a little getting used to, but once you get used to it, you don't really feel cold. The summers are not bad either. We do get times when we break triple digits ferenheit but generally we sit around 80 - 90 degrees ferenheit.
If you have any more questions, I or someone else will try and answer them the best we can.

Is Sheridan Conservative and Christian for the most part ?? I hope so. Also, is it clean? Do folks keep their homes and lawns clean and tidy? I do not care how humble they are...I just want clean!
My hometown in MIchigan (Frankenmuth...a VERY clean little German town) spoiled me! We are now living in Bozeman, Montana and although the scenery is very beautiful, it is amazing to me how dirty the folks are around here...throw their trash everywhere and many, many dirty little run-down houses everywhere. It is sad.
Ok, Sheridan just sprung a leak. We only have 16,000. Course the county has got more.
There are rentals showing up more and more every day because the Methane is dropping out of the picture (as far as new construction) and is becoming more maintaining. So a lot of folks have moved on. Also, in the last year or so, Sheridan has built approximately 250 homes and they're still building. So a lot is coming available. Start pegging the realitors, they hold the listings. Hardly nobody advertises in the paper anymore.
Is bozeman that bad in the clean department, I thought it was a cool town to rasie a family last time i was there? We are looking to move there. What is it like as far as a place to raise a family with a Christian community focus but access to aspects of a college town? Is it a resort town?
How is the economy there?
Thanks
