All of the modern medical equipment was available (MRI, CT scans, etc.) They made a horrible event much calmer for us. In the event they can't treat a patient, Sheridan, Casper or Billings are the nearest hospitals and Denver (6 hours) is the nearest major medical center.
One observation I've made since coming here is that it doesn't seem to snow as much in Buffalo as it does in neighboring towns. Over the last couple weeks there was one blizzard and another winter storm. Buffalo got somewhere around 5 inches total, but after driving in Sheridan today (to shop at Walmart & Albertsons) it looks like they got somewhere around 10-15". Same goes for Gillette.

Congratulations on your 3rd baby! I am glad your wife had a great experience at the local hospital. I am glad they were able to be of comfort and help with your son also...

Thank you so much for the extensive reply, hatboro.
I also appreciate the information that you added, navyvet.
One of my concerns was the medical care...where we live now, I have had to drive 120 miles to Billings for all of our prenatal care and the delivery of both of my boys. The primary reason we have not considered another child is the proximity and availability of Ob/Gyns.
Hopefully this winter weather will clear up soon so that we can come visit!

You might be right, but it would surprise me a little if that's true. We (Gillette) only had 4" of snow with this latest storm, but what we do get a little more of in Gillette is WIND. And that probably makes it look like more snow because of the drifting. Buffalo is tucked down low up against the mountains, really protected from north and west winds. Just a possibility....
I agree it's a lovely town -- one of my all-time favorites. I've thought of moving there a couple times over the years.

DEFINITELY true. I commute from Buffalo to Gillette, and the wind there blows hard! Anytime I drive through a snowstorm to get to work it has always seemed worse east of the Powder River to Gillette. I think with Buffalo tucked into the mountains, like WyoNewk said, it breaks up the weather a little bit right over the town. Sheridan sits a bit further out from the mountains and it seems like they get hammered a lot.

Small Business
How is Buffalo for starting a small business?
My wife and I are in Cody and this town does not seem to cater to small business anymore. I have been searching for months trying to find a small affordable retail shop to lease with no luck. Oh, there are some new commercial buildings on the west side of town. Only seeing franchise and corporate business in those because the rent is so high.
We have always liked Buffalo and were torn between there and Cody. Looks like we made the wrong choice. So here we are back in the forums trying to get some info. Any insight would be great. We will travel there next week.
Need to know if there are any small commercial buildings for rent downtown or where ever a decent location might be.
Thanks everybody.

If you go to the Buffalo Bulletin website and search the classifieds for rentals, you will find a listing for some commercial space for rent. Not sure of the location, but a phone number was provided.
I'd post the ad here for you, but I'm pretty sure that's against the rules.

Thanks navyvet79. I will be making a couple calls tomorrow. I would like to have a few addresses to check out when we get there next week.
...and thank you for your service to our country.

I drove solo to Yellowstone N.P. for a fishing trip (low budget- not the bigtime) back in October and stopped in Buffalo, WY for a couple of days on my way home. My short visit there was much as described in posts above- nice people and beautiful country. I am planning to take my wife with me this fall to see Buffalo. Our kids will be on their own very soon and we are approaching early retirement age. I would like to hear from those who know about hunting and fishing opportunities in the Buffalo area. I am NOT interested in the bigtime guided trophy hunting or fishing. I am interested in do-it-yourself small (birds, etc.) or large (mule deer, antelope, etc.) game hunting, catch and release fishing and solitude on public or private land. Also, are there ladies' activities (community clubs, school/family benefit projects, etc.) active in Buffalo? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
