Post Dell Burke, any information involving her welcome. Specific questions inside.

I'm writing a fiction novel, which takes place in Lusk/Manville WY. I need to know a little more information on Dell Burke / Mary Ada Fisher. I am hoping to add in a little non-fiction about ms. Burke. I realize Ms. Burke was well respected by the time of her passing and I am not trying to ruffle any feathers with these questions,

- What was people's opinion on her before she saved the power/water of the town.

- Did the public have a negative or positive attitude toward the Yellow Hotel, or her brothel?

- I understand she had a tainted reputation, and was well aquainted with the law. Why is it she became so well respected?

-Also, It is rumoured that once she died, no one seemed to care.

"When the 93 year-old died in her small hospital room in 1981, the value of her estate totaled $1.3 million. But despite her wealth, no one held a memorial service. No one sent flowers. When her family heard if her death, they simply had her cremated, her ashes strewn by the Wyoming wind across the land she loved so much." - Niobrara County Library - Dell (Fisher) Burke

Why is that?

ANY other information, or even you're own opinion of the lady, is of intrest to me. Thank you!

I've never met Dr Read, but she is a Lusk native who literally wrote the book on Ms Burke.

She has a web site:

June Read, author of Frontier Madam, the life of Dell Burke, Lady of Lusk

Default Fascination information about Dell Burke.

Hi! I am a lover of western history and passionate about Wyoming for some reason. I am a Montana native and recently sold my home there so that I could buy land in Wyoming to ride and put a small rustic cabin on, along with round pen for horses. I would love to read this book and will checkout this website. Any information about Manville, Lance Creek or Lusk will be welcomed as the land I bought is ten miles from Lance Creek. Thank you, Diana
