Which town has more?
I'm curious to know which town has more to do as far as shopping without having to go to Billings Montana or the Denver area. I guess the areas I'm looking at are Sheridan, Cody, Lander/Riverton, Casper. Are their more retail chain stores and restaurants more than the rest of what I listed? Or maybe I left a town off the list, so feel free to add a town for this post. I know most people probably have to drive a good distance to get more. Personally I would be content with some retail chains/restaurants in a town but I guess I wouldn't be content driving every weekend to Billings or the Denver area if I had to, though it would make for a nice getaway trip to enjoy once in awhile.

I would say that out of the towns you are looking at, Casper most likely has more, at least in the way of retail stores and chains. As far as restaraunts go, I'm not sure, but I believe they probably have a nice selection of restaraunts. I mostly ate at fast food places when I was there for my kid's wrestling tournaments. I haven't been to Lander/Riverton in a very long time so I don't know what they have or don't have. The last time I was in Cody they didn't have much, mainly Wal-mart and a Pamida so a lot of folks would go to Billings every so often to shop. They had a few nice restaraunts, but not a huge variety of different foods. Sheridan has enough selection to buy the basics, but they don't have any major retail stores other than Wal-mart and K-mart and a dinky JC Penny. A lot of folks go to Billings or Rapid City, SD to shop several times a year. Not a lot of variety in restaraunts either. Most all serve the same food. We do have a couple of Mexican Food places, a couple of Chinese Food places, a couple of High End fancy places where the food portions are tiny and the prices are high and several family restaraunts like Perkins. The rest are steak houses and fast foods.
Most any of the larger towns in WY will be able to provide you with basics and most all have at least a Wal-mart and a few decent restaraunts and several fast food places. There are no Costcos that I am aware of in WY, but Casper has a Sam's Club so if you like to buy in bulk you'd most likely have to travel for that kind of shopping.

Casper has about anything you'd need, and even the smaller towns you mentioned have decent shopping and dining. That said, it depends mostly on the individual. I live in Gillette, which is comparable to Sheridan in its services. When still married to my ex we were out of town half the weekends going somewhere, as that's what the ex enjoyed for entertainment -- shopping in Denver, Casper, Billings or Rapid City. My new wife doesn't enjoy shopping, so we almost never leave town except for camping trips to the Bighorns, Black Hills, etc. We'll probably make 2-3 trips per year to one of those cities for one reason or another and do a little shopping and dining out while there, but 99% of our shopping is done at home.

Hands down, the two Wyoming places for best local shopping would be Casper and Cheyenne.
With the distance from any other major shopping area, Casper does a better job in retail than Cheyenne, and I think has a better selection of restaurants with better quality overall than Cheyenne.
Cheyenne has the advantage of reasonably close access to Fort Collins or a bit further south to Denver, so doesn't support as much local shopping as Casper does. Laramie enjoys somewhat the same advantage ... reasonable local shopping, but ready access to a much bigger marketplace.
