Close-by towns to Riverton.... heh, Lander is the next biggest (8k residents, 26 miles away, much higher home/rental prices), then it's probably a toss-up between Hudson (400 residents, 15 miles) and Shoshoni (635 residents, 19 miles) in terms of size, followed by Kinnear, Morton and Pavillion (all 3 to the north, maybe 200 people).
Rentals are very limited in the area, and have been for a few years. Your 2 best options are talking with a Riverton based Realtor, and subscribing to the Riverton Ranger newspaper (they have an online presence, but it's updated at random and usually a few weeks apart).
