relocating and starting over
My parents are in there 50's and are considering relocating in the gillette area. The thing is they would both be starting completely over. how hard is this going to be for them and is it possible for them to do? My dad has 30yrs experience in the oil field and other odds and ends kind of a jack of all trades. My mom has always done secretarial positions and customer service. I guess we are just wondering if its going to be harder becuase of there age. id appreciate any feedback, opinions and or help thanks

I don't think their age has a bit to do with them finding jobs. It is their work ethic, work experience, good references, etc. that people will look at. 50's is still considered quite young! I've heard a lot of people say, regarding working in the oil fields or mines, "if you can pass a drug test and if you show up on time every day" then you should have not problems getting/keeping a good job. Don't let being in their 50's discourage them at all, and if you need any help finding resources to find jobs let us know & folks on the forum will lead you & your folks in the right direction. Best wishes to them!

That's the thing about a Boom town and the work that's available. Age isn't going to be a big factor. There are no jobs that sceniority or longevity really play a big roll.
Most jobs in the country are "I've been working for 18 years, they'll never get rid of me. I have job security." or They won't hire me because I'm too old to train and them get many years of service out of me.
Not the case in a boom town. Either your willing, able, and capable to do the job starting tomorrow with little or no training or we don't need you.
Most jobs don't have a retirement so how many years you put in doesn't make a difference.
So their age won't be a factor as much as their attitude and ability.

The world wide drilling company my husband works for has stopped drilling in Wyoming. Their rigs are being moved out of the state. The majority of the men involved have been traveling to Wyoming to work. I guess they couldn't find drug free hands in state from what I've read here lately. The company has very high standards that aren't easy to fool.

Thanks for your input. they were worried about it. But it sounds like they shouldnt worry to much and just enjoy a new beginning. I was also wondering if anyone had anything they new about preschools in the gillette area that would be worth considering . i think we will be in the shady hollow area when this all comes together. it would just be a little easier to work from recommendations rather then blindsighted. I was also wondering about places that offer activities for preschoolers such as swimming lessons tumbling, dance, etc. thanks

Hello!
Do you mean Sleepy Hollow? I don't know of a Shady Hollow. I live in Sleepy Hollow and one of the schools I work at is Conestoga Elem. which is in our subdivision. I can find out about preschools in this area. There are tons of things for kids here...swimming lessons (school has an aquatic center, the rec center is the county rec place and they have lessons and are building a brand new huge building, as well as swimming at other health clubs), dance lessons, gymnastics, hockey, etc. are all available for kids of all ages. Gillette is very "kid friendly". I will get any information you need, just ask away!!!

Yes I did mean Sleepy Hollow. Any info on the pre schools would be great thank you so much. it will be a good start for us rather than just trying to figure it out on our own. we will have plenty to do when we get out there. My husband is just waiting to here back from the mines. last we heard they were still in a hiring freeze.
