This is an interesting topic, but what always amazes me is that most people forget that they have no choice about what colour, race, etc, that they are born. But to quote one of my favourite childhood poets, Shel Silverstein:
No Difference
Small as a peanut,
Big as a giant,
We're all the same size
When we turn off the light.
Red, black or orange,
Yellow or white,
We all look the same
When we turn off the light.
So maybe the way
To make everything right
Is for God to just reach out
And turn off the light!
Peace to all

Whether it's lights on, lights off, blindfolded, or head in the sand, reality is what it is. I don't know why some find that so unpleasant. Perhaps they're the ones who don't look well in the light.

I can understand your wives concerns. I grew up in Wyoming and there is bigotry just like everywhere else. She may feel out of her element if there aren't anyone that she can 'relate' to..
It is a very monoracial area but that is changing just as the makeup of the economy is changing.
Growing up there I never encountered any black person until I was in my mid-teens.. I was more curious then anything else.. I'm one that would approach your wife with a barage of good questions.. I still don't understand a lot of "racial" issues and never felt "racsist/bigoted" until the barage from multiple sources outside of Wyoming. it's thrown out there every day to the point you totally understand why we have race issues.
People there are wonderful people and will "judge" you on your abilities - not what you look like.. the majority of people are very conservative in the fact that it's up to you to make it work.. nooone else.
I wish the jobs in the state where more geared toward my degree because i would love to move back.
Good luck and have positive thoughts .. its beautiful country, great people, and you don't have to make 50$ an hour to survive.

You most have interviewed all our great citizens? I missed the interview so this why I say -don't speak for the great people in this state, you have no real contact with us. Have a great day at least once in your life, ask someone how there doing and mean it-of course make sure they are of your pre-approved ethnic group.

This thread is about race.
What is more fundamental in history than race. My race is the White race. In case you've forgotten, we built the country.

A boomtown like Gillette is a melting pot, as is Laramie with the University; other towns are made up mostly of natives to the area and might be more of a problem.

What " other towns have you lived in to have a clear reponse to the question?? Not to be a bad ass-but you may have a shallow knowledge of our great state?

I think she will have problems if you move to a smaller town. Maybe not so much in Gillette/Cheyenne.
