From what I've heard things have slowed down some, but the major oil or gas areas in the state are near Gillette, Casper, Rock Springs, Rawlins, Thermopolis areas. I saw a workover rig going to a new site today just out of Gillette. You just need to do some searching!

Have you considered North Dakota?

The Baker Hughes rig count for Wyoming shows one rig drilling for oil - it's in the NE corner. There are NO OTHER rigs running in Wyoming. They don't track work over rigs in the count. The major drilling company my husband works for stopped drilling in Wyoming. They are stacking out all the equipment for long term storage. My husband held his position but about 150 men were either demoted or laid off. He got transferred to another state.
Colorado still has rigs running but if you don't have a job now - you now have serious competition for any position. North Dakota has a big oil field with several rigs running right now but once again the Wyoming hands are probably getting the first offer of a job. There are Rig Managers being offered Driller jobs! Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Lousiana also have major fields that are near a gas pipe line so will fair better than states not near a pipe line like Wyoming. Gas and oil drilling has slowed way down. If the prices don't go back up the companies will have no choice but to cut back even further.

Clay Lady,
My brother, Don Botkin worked for a rig company there in Wyoming. I don't know the name of the rig or if it even has one, but he worked w/ another guy who is his brother n law, last name Sedgewick. Would this ring a bell w/ your husband?

There was just an ad in the Gillette News Record last night that an oil drilling company was hiring here in Gillette. You might check the paper's website and get ahold of them! Best wishes!
