Alpine or Jackson or ???
Friends of ours are considering a move to the Jackson Hole area. Is Alpine comparable to Jackson in terms of lifestyle or a distinctly different place? Are rents in Jackson more reasonable than housing prices?
Presumably summer in Alpine is quieter? As pretty as Jackson?
Winter? I get a mixed sense from reading earlier posts. Presumably commuting to Jackson from the northern end Star Valley is better than going over the mountains to Driggs.
Should they be looking beyond these two places if they will wish to run their business from home presumably with high speed internet.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I am not too familiar with the area... but there may be some folks that have more info. for you.
I know that rentals are hard to come by in Jackson, from what I have heard. Not sure about Alpine, but I assume they are there too...
I don't think high speed internet would be a problem.. a lot of well to do people live in that area, and I am sure need/have highspeed...
Best of luck to you..

Alpine is definitely different from Jackson ....
although both are affluent areas and high priced, Jackson is way off the top of the scale ....
while Alpine is somewhat more affordable. The star valley is a long stretch of modest communities/business & small commercial districts ... Jackson is a much larger single concentration of stores, shopping, commercial development, hospitality and recreation center.
High speed internet is no problem in either location. Rumors have been confirmed that both have electricity, telephones, a view of the satellites, running water, indoor plumbing and heating, adequate blankets in local supply, and the indians have stopped attacking in recent memory.
If access to Jackson is important, and your friends can afford it, than it's best to stay as close as possible rather than any commute. I think it's "6's" when comparing a commute form Driggs to Jackson vs. the star valley to Jackson when stormy weather is making the roads difficult in the area ....
The natural beauty of the region is overwhelming wherever you are ... I enjoy the entire star valley area as well the the 'hole. Access to outdoor recreation abounds in the region, so unless you "need" to have close access to a ski resort, anywhere is fine ....

LOL!! Good one. Here in Idaho, the question is non-trivial. Lots of places off the grid. Outside of the city areas, it does get spotty. Alpine was far enough away on Google maps for me to ask.
I want to see them move...so we have a place to crash!! Alpine seemed very familiar...
