Going to UW in August, want to know how everyone feels about the cellular service in the area. Need to have service that'll work out there

I can only speak for my daughter, who has Verizon. It works well, although out in the country between towns there are some dead spots (as with any service in Wyoming). There are some companies that aren't available anywhere in the area. I think Verizon is one of the most popular.

Ditto what Georgiainmt said. I also have Verizon, and have used it while traveling around various parts of Wyoming. The coverage is pretty good around the state. The other national provider that I've heard about that offers good coverage around the state is Alltel, which was recently acquired by Verizon, I believe.

Other than those two, the only other providers offering good coverage in Wyoming are local companies with limited coverage elsewhere, I believe. One of them is Union Wireless. I'm not sure if there are others.

This is from the Union Wireless website:
In 1990, Union Telephone Company ("Union") expanded into wireless communications services, then called "cellular" service. The wireless area that Union now covers, or is licensed to cover, is over 123,500 square miles encompassing the state of Wyoming, northwestern Colorado and parts of Utah. Union's extensive coverage is second to none in those areas it serves. In the past 16 years Union's wireless sites have multiplied from 8 to over 200. Union offers many rate plans and digital service to its customers.

My cousin lives in Laramie and has Verizon and said that the coverage is "fine in the cities....just out on the prairie not so good some places.. Wyoming just sucks for cell coverage, but that's any carrier here. it's the boonies/podunk you know "
Her quote, not mine [ She also went to UW...just graduated recently with a degree in botany, then moved back after a year back home (Lander) because she liked it there.

I live in Gering, Nebraska but find myself in Wyoming often. Verizon is your best bet; I have internet and phone service through them and have only encountered a few "dead zones" through western Nebraska and most of Wyoming. Mainly in SW and NE Wyoming. On or near major highways/interstates and in the "larger towns" 5000 + people you're in good shape, but near my friends ranch between Lusk and Newcastle for example, you're in good shape if you have a bar or two of service.
