Powell is close to a nicer town called Cody. Cody is a more costly town due to it being ??? a tourist town? Powell is closer to Billings MT. and is a nice town, has a college, it is mostly a farming community about 30 miles from Cody. Fishing around Cody in my oppinion is better.
I own land there and used to live there in Cody. The area is mostly high desert and gets alot of wind too & some snow but it is considered pretty dry. Yes, they do get some snow just not really alot

I live there. It used to be that Cody was more expensive than Powell, but that is not the case anymore. Powell has caught up in real estate the past few years. Cody is now cheaper to shop in- because it has bigger stores- a few 'chain' stores, which Powell does not have. Food is especially a better buy in Cody now. Utilities-electric is less expensive in Cody per kw/hr. Powell gets less snow usually, but both are windy. My neighbor seriously fishes and I asked him because I do not fish- he prefers going towards the (oh crap I forgot the name)- the Lovell area- up the pass that way. I worked at both hospitals- neither are much to speak of- more like Bandaid Stations. There is no cardiologist in either. I think the people are in general a bit snottier in Cody- that I can only gauge by hospital employees. Doctors are better in Cody by a small margin, but nursing care is definately more serious.better in Powell.
Powell seems drier than Cody, but if you look at rainfall it is the same.
Cody is hard to drive in , in the summer due to tourists- if you are an impatient driver.
I think you will find Powell friendlier.
Cody has more places to eat by far.
If you want to hike, camp, then I would go towards Burgess Junction area- it is a prettier place, not crowded with visitors as Cody/Powell are. You won't have the 'tourist' atmoshere there.
So- it depends on why you are coming- what you want to do/see.

Prospecting in wyoming is hard. Not nears a good as AZ. I lived in El Centro for a year and prospected in eastern CA and western AZ. I found more gold on the few weekends there than I have in 35 years in Wy. It's still fun though to get out on the weekends and do something outside town.

My bad I guess, I was comparing AZ off your reply three posts above where you said you prospected there. Corn is good too.
