Default How about Saratoga?

What would a newcomer to Saratoga need to know? Thought we'd be moving to Rawlins, but the hubby is starting to lean towards Saratoga. Are there a lot (I know...relative to a smaller town) of teenagers? We will be bringing 2 more. Thanks ahead of time...I enjoy reading these posts...you guys are a goldmine of information.

Lots of kids in Saratoga.

The high school is almost the center of the universe for the local resident population. School activities ... sports, music, academic ... are very highly valued by the community, which is fairly close knit. Folks whose children are long graduated still come out to support the current kids. They'll fill the gymanasium for a basketball game ....

The town itself is not such a big deal, shopping and such is limited and you'll travel for a lot of needs. But the surrounding countryside and outdoor activities are spectacular, world class in many respects. You'll see the local airport loaded with private jets through much of the year with people coming in for outdoor recreation.

If you like hunting, fishing, camping, equine activities, or just the big outdoors, this is a wonderful place to bring your kids.

Do they still have the "unofficial" hot springs there?

They do. My husband loves it. He likes that there's a bit more green there than in Rawlins and he just seems to like the feel of it more.

But then, he starts the day by a long truck drive, then he's outside all day, either with dirt being blown into every part of him or in the cold with the wind...you know the drill...and then another long truck drive back to the "box" that he lives in during the week and wishing that there were more places to go to than Blockbuster and Sanfords.

That might have something to do with Saratoga's appeal. A change of scenery for him and a nice long soak.

Either which way...he's busting his butt for us, so if he wants Saratoga, it's fine by me. Just looking for as much info as I can get.

If I had to chose between Rawlins and Saratoga I would pick Saratoga hands down, just stock your pantry before the snow flies. When you see Rawlins you'll thank your lucky stars that you're in Saratoga. We love to go to the Saratoga Inn for a weekend, we have always had good experiences everywhere we go there. Also, it's not that long of a drive into Laramie by the highway, it's a shorter route than the interstate. It's also safer in the winter in my opinion.
