Hello. I will be driving through Wyoming later this month, taking I-90 most of the way from Ohio to Washington. According to AAA and Mapquest, I should stay on I-90W the whole time, except near Sturgis, SD, where they both reroute me north on US-85 to Belle Fourche and then across a sliver of WY on US-212, into MT. Is this THAT much faster than just staying on I-90W in SD and taking it more through WY into MT? I guess I'm just wondering what the advantages are using the Mapquest/AAA directions rather than staying on I-90W. Thank you in advance.

I think you'll find the US-212 route somewhat shorter, although it's a slower road than the 75 mph I-90 through Wyoming route. 212 is also heading through some rather sparse and desolate country, with not many stops ... where I-90 heads through a number of major Wyoming towns, with more opportunities for stopping, food, shopping, etc.

Thank you for the reply! I think I'll just stay on I-90 then. I'd rather be closer to amenities and civilization just in case something happens.
