Default leaving AZ going to move to Casper

I am headed to casper, Me and mine ( two daughters 10 and 16 ) Would like to hear the do's and dont's that the local population would have to say. I am a HVAC tech been doing that for 16 years. I have recieved several responses to my job inquiries, How is it that unemployment rates are so low comparable to the rest of the country it is amazing is there some inside secret. I am so glad that there is a state like wyoming it certainly may be the last conservative state in the nation. God bless Wyoming .

Have you a job lined up or are you going for an interview? There are quite a few listings for house rentals on Craigslist. wyoming apts/housing for rent classifieds - craigslist I've only been through Casper so I can't speak for what the locals could tell you. The mountains are lovely.

I would suggest having housing and a job lined up before moving. That will keep down the stress for all of you. Good luck with your move.

Wyoming is hurting for jobs just like any other state. Plants are shutting down production (the few that we have), mines are laying off, building is slow and carpenters are working at McDonalds to pay bills.

The reason unemployment rate is so low is that we have very few people for the jobs that are out there.

Another big factor. How does each state talley the number of unemployed?

1. Everybody with no job? (Can't count those people)
2. Everybody on welfare? (Can't count those either)
3. Everybody that is receiving unemployment? Yup.

It's too difficult to try and compute the number of people that aren't working unless you have an accounting system like unemployment to use as a ruler. Trouble is, there are a lot of folks not drawing unemployment.

Good point, ElkHunter. I've been unemployed many times, as has my wife, but we've never filed for unemployment. Probably lots of people like us.

Well you will be trading your air conditioning skills in for your heating skills. Much better place for you to raise your kids. Casper is a great place with excellent schools. Same problems as other places just different approaches to solving them. Very conservative politically. More bars than most other places but more churches too. We loved Casper. Remember it is as cold there as AZ is hot.

Regarding having housing lined up, just be very careful! I would make a trip and actually find a place to live. My brother rented over the phone and through online photos as he got a job that needed him ASAP so it was a quick move. Everything looked & sounded good. We went to help them move and when we got to the condo it was a dump! There was mold growing in several places, it was dirty, and unkempt. Needless to say, we started looking for a place for them to live at 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon. We actually found a nice condo for a great price by 6:00 so feel lucky. It is difficult to move to a town with a Uhaul full of stuff with no place to go! We actually did find a lot of houses/condos available for rent, so that's the good part, as well as the fact that the rental prices seem to have dropped some in the past year. By the way, they love Casper so far (even with the wind), so best wishes to you if you decide to move there!
