Default What is going on in Sweetwater County?

I visited Green River/Rock Springs recently. Interesting reading the newspaper, in that there are hardly any jobs in the newspapers (as opposed to when I was there last summer when there were about 100) but there were LOTS of houses and apartments for rent (when last summer there were hardly any). I heard alot of oil rigs shut down operation when the price of gas went down thereby lots of people lost jobs.

So apparently people just packed up and left? Kinda scary.

It wasn't just oil drilling that came to a screeching halt; natural gas prices also plummeted, and coalbed methane drilling has also been curtailed. Together, that's been the prime industry for Sweetwater County. Oil boomtowns have always been this way. When oil and gas prices rebound, so will the drilling fields and the towns that support them. Give it a year; they'll be back.

many people on here familiar with wyoming history have warned over and over that things can go from boom to bust in an amazingly short time.It is interesting to see the helpwanted sections of the boomtown newspapers go from hundreds of jobs to a dozen or less some weeks.Prices to buy a home are still pretty high....for now
