((((( Great!! story CptnRn )))))
I haven't lived in Casper since the 70's and early 80's but have inlaws still there. I loved it there and have fond memories. I would like to move back one day. I'm originally from Kentucky and had no problems being accepted by anyone .. native to Wyoming or otherwise.

Where do you live? - I want to move there. Perhaps many in Casper are transplants and other energy-boom towns and larger cities. But as for smaller towns, rural Wyoming, (at least the 3 I've lived in) almost nobody is a transplant. As a transplant, residents have been pleasant, not rude. But they just don't accept somebody from the outside into their social AKA friends circle. They greet you with a smile, but when they find out I'm not from the area, or aren't married to somebody from the area, etc. they continue to be nice, but don't ever call to include us in social gatherings.

At times like these I like to break the ice by inviting my neighbors to a Bar-B-Q, etc.

not quite sure how people expect to be able to make blanket generalizations about a decently large community and expect it to hold any kind of weight. has racism not taught you people anything? there is no possible way to categorize a single town unless you are talking about a VERY small community of farmers, oil field workers, etc (rock river comes to mind...)
I've only been on these forums for a few weeks, and noticed in another thread someone wondering about the political atmosphere of Laramie. really, a town of 13,000 people (without the university brats), and you guys really believe that 100% of the people there all think the same way?
That being said, I was born and raised in Casper, and lived there until I was 20. Then moved to Laramie to finish up school and moved on elsewhere. Recently, I have been frequenting trips back to Casper to visit friends, etc. I can tell you in the last decade, Casper has BOOMED. There is a lot more entertainment than what I remember as a kid. The downtown theaters are great. OK nightlife (the wonderbar is probably the only bar you'll want to visit though). GREAT outdoor activities. Great hiking and biking trails on the mountain. Tons of opportunity for hunting (deer and antelope in the immediate area, sheep, elk and moose if you are willing to travel a bit). Great river and stream fishing for trout, and great walleye fishing in 4 lakes all within an hour and a half (Alcova, Glendo, Pathfinder and Boysen). The housing has pockets of good and bad. If I were raising a child, I would try and stick to the east end of town (eastgate) since there are K-12 schools within walking distance of many houses in that area. The "tree area" downtown by the college would also be a decent place. Also, the community college is EXCELLENT. A great fine arts program, great nursing program, great engineering program, and a decent liberal arts program (although they lost my all time favorite professor, so I am a little biased..) Not sure where you are coming from, but if outdoor activities are your thing, you won't be disappointed by Casper. If you are a nightlife kind of guy, you can probably make due, but don't expect it to be Houston/Austin/Boston.
poke around, look for houses, meet the neighbors. you'll find something. if you need an OUTSTANDING realtor, I can provide.

Have done it several times - to bar-b-q at my house, out for coffee, lunch, kids over to play, etc. They very pleasantly say "No thanks". Again, they are nice, but I can't tell you how many times I've met people and when they ask my name and I tell them, they fail to recognize my last name and say "you're not from here, are you."

Took the city a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng time to clean up that rubbish alongside the interstate. In any other city, they'd have done it sooner and more efficiently. Casper residents know what I'm referring to.
If the first thing anyone sees upon entering most WY towns - it's the car junkyard - oh really appealing to the eye.
