Default moving to Rawlins, WY

My husband has gotten a job with the WDOC as a corrections officer and we will be moving to Rawlins or nearby area at the end of August....My only concern is about the school system...My son is autistic and I can't find anything about the special ed. classes, etc...He is 11 years old and, I assume since there's no specialty school like there is here in Saginaw, MI, that he will be going to the middle school...does anyone know anything about the special ed classes there? I know they won't be happy with us, because Dylan will probably need his own aid to make it in that kind of setting...I'm a bit worried about it all, but am hoping for the best?!

Leslie

I worked in Rawlins some but never lived besides a week or two in a time. Cant answer your school question to much with the school system there. Went to school in Casper (Although bigger city) they had the autistic kids going to school with us. Most of the time they had there own classes and own teachers but they wanted to mix them in with the other students to I believe. I cant speak again for Rawlins but here the students mixed in great with them and they was just part of the gang so to say. The best bet would be to contact the school system there in Rawlins and talk to them in person instead of getting info from anyone but the horses mouth.

Carbon County School System Web site
www-rawlins.crb1.k12.wy.us
And there is a phone number that might help or they would be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

Hope your move goes great and love Wyoming!!! It will be a great teaching aid for you also with your son!!!!!

Talking moving to Rawlins

I have a 8 yr old with Autism, and we are moving to Rawlins too, but we live only 41 miles from there now, and the school my son is in now he has a full time aide, so I bet the schools in Rawlins will work with you too. My son is on a IEP and that is a blessing. I also have a son that is 6 and barley talks, I was worried about changing schools and getting what he needs, but I talked to a teacher here where i am now and she sent her daughter from here to there because this school here did not offer what her daughter needed. So that made me smile. I hope everything works out for you.

You in Wamsucker or Bairoil? I was in Rawlins for several years, and was glad to get out. I tried to move to either Wamsucker or Bairoil, just wasn't able to find anything I could afford. Which is the only benefit to being in Rawlins.

I will compliment Rawlins though, they have a good education system for kids with autism.

Wish both of you the best in your move!
