Interested in finding info on Independent Communities
This may come across as an odd question but I am not inquiring about anything illegal. My question is are there any separatist type communties in the state of Wyoming ... more specifically groups or communities dedicated to complete independence from the "grid" ... producing their own food / electric / home schooling - providing their own self defense , etc. If anyone has any info please post or send me a private message. Thanks.

Gillette is the only place right off in WY that is a bit more independant from the rest of the state. At one time about 20 or so years ago I heard that Campbell county wanted to become their own state. But I don't think that area is independant in the areas you are talking about and maybe that is why they didn't seperate and become their own state. Jackson Hole is also another area that is pretty much it's own little planet.
Both of these areas have pretty large amounts of self wealth. One because of the coal and coal bed methane and the other because of the gazillionaires living there.

I live in Gillette. May be a bit more independent in general than most other towns around (Wyoming being big on independence anyway) but did you mean more like a "commune"?
I could not find any Wyoming communes while looking on the web, but an interesting question; I would not mind knowing the answer myself. PM me if you hear of anything.
By the way, are you looking for more of a "militia" type of commune environment, or more of a "hippie" type or "high end" type, or something else?

Not a hippie or environmentalist type commune. I've been gathering a little info here and there , when I've got something solid I'll PM you. I posted this question on forums in several states and been busy with work all week so will compile what I get when I'm off Monday.

Take a look at this. It's a place to start. Wyoming tends to be very individualistic, so people tend to provide their own arrangements.

Happy ...
Thanks , checked out the website. I would love to move to Wyoming , in fact the idea is nothing new to me. I am rabidly anti-gun control , I like peace and quiet , and like the idea of open space and good , peaceable relations with like minded neighbors. Meanwhile I live in NYC , home of the worst gun control laws in the nation , loud , crowded and mostly liberal ... lol ... but I have a good job here and that's what keeps me. I've been looking to see if any railroads are hiring in Wyoming but doesn't seem any are right now. If I found a railroad job I've got between 25-30k saved which I imagine would be enough for me and my wife to make the move.

Wow ... I'm slightly disappointed , I was hoping the cost of living was so cheap in Wyoming I could retire on 30k and live the rest of my life w/o working ..... seriously though , I agree if I'm going to find work on a railroad I don't think Wyoming is going to be the place. I would definitely love to live there though. We'll see how it goes.
