Questions about Laramie
Hi,
We will be relocating this summer to Laramie from Montana for a year, I will be going to school (Wyotech) My wife is a national certified massage therapist, i was wondering how many therapist there were there, and if there was a market established for her to set up her own business there, or just look for working for a spa or business.
Just finding info on Laramie, sounds like great in the summer and cold and nasty in the winter. But thats ok, montana is not exactly the tropics.
My main concern is housing, and getting set up right now.
Also is there any good day care there?
We have a 1 year old, We try to avoid day care, but with me working full time and going to school full time, if my wife wants to continue her pratice its about the only option.
Thanks in advanace.

Have you tried looking online for the business directory for Laramie? Or possibly send for a phone book from that are? I know this is what I've done for the Lander/Riverton area looking for computer repair businesses (to scope out potential competition for my husband's work).
Craigslist might have some housing listings.. or check with the Laramie newspaper ? (there might be more than one, I don't know)
Good luck in your move!

There are several apartment complexes operated by WyoTech on the West side of town which may meet your needs and be affordable. Additionally, being a "college" town, Laramie has a lot of apartments and other housing which is targeted to students, including "family" students.
I counted 6 Massage therapist offics in Laramie ... which includes a number of "spas" as well as independent practices. Some are targeted to "wellness" programs, several by the hospital/medical community on Ivinson. I think you'd do best to call them and see if anybody needs another therapist on staff for the year's time you'll be in Laramie. Opening up your own practice might be a tough way to go, given so many established practices for the population there now.

Thanks for the responces. Good idea Froggie Legs of ordering a phone book, i had not though of that trick yet. Just might get a jump on that and see whats there.
sunsprit, Family housing? wow, didnt know that, i am still wating on the paperwork from the school, (should be a week or so) But the way they talked it was more single housing. But i will definatly talk about it with my advisor.
6 listed is not bad at all, compared to most, Here in missoula there are many, of course most go to the colledge here, which is not that good of a school. But there are a lot of them.
Yea, i think working for someone else for a while would be best, then spend the time and money when school is over and we decide where we are going to end up for a while. (probably back home) and build from there.
Thanks again for the great responces.

Even though I had lived in Sheridan prior to going in the Navy. When I was getting ready to get out, I wrote a letter to the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce. They sent me a big bundle of "stuff". Realestate listings, facts about the city, list of vendors, stores, auto shops, attorneys, daycares, nursing homes, schools, doctors, clinics, etc. Seemed everybody put a flyer in that package. Kind of a welcome to Sheridan type bundle.
I'm sure the Laramie Chamber does the same thing. Might give that a try along with getting the info from here.
By the way. I didn't even have an address for the Chamber. Just wrote to Chamber of Commerce, Sheridan wyoming and they got it just fine.

You can view a true copy of the phone book online at the link below (it's just like having one without having one):
" + title + " - "+ publisher +" " + product + "
If for any reason that doesn't work, you can get there from here:

thinking of moving there and would like to know if I will be able to acquire a job in one of the oil fields there and a home that is not going to break our pockets. If I can not find employment, it is fruitless in our moving out there, would you not agree.

Lots of oil jobs in the rock springs area, but be prepared to pay out the wazoo for housing.
Not sure how many oil jobs there are around Laramie myself, maby someone else will know.
Have a brother in law that was working in the oil fields in rock springs, good pay, long hours, but they shut down not long ago.

Oil prices seem to be inching up again, but there's probably a long line of drillers waiting to get their jobs back when drilling picks up. The outlook isn't good. I read in Gillette's local paper the other day that the Powder River Basin had 50 gas rigs operating at the end of last year, but currently has NONE! Oil, gas may face bleak years ahead
