Centennial
Did you look at any other small towns when you were here? I like the scenery in Centennial and the skiing at Snowy Range but I can't imagine living there either. How did you find Centennial? I'm guessing from your post that you hadn't been there before. There are many, many small towns in WY that are wonderful. I live in one! I do hope that you don't base your entire view of WY on what happened to you there.

oh my goodness!you hung out all night in a bar and there where drunks there?what a shock.!i have found the easiest way to avoid the 'party crowd'is to avoid places you are likely to find them.this pretty much includes most bars.perhaps a small, mostly lds town in utah would be a better fit for you and your family.......or you could just stay out of the bars

Thankfully, the local "hot spot" in Centennial was enough to discourage Maine Mom from making a mistake about moving to Wyoming with her children.
I've never heard of anyone in a small town in Maine using alcohol or pot to excess .... must be an "out West" phenomenon limited to our state.

It's best they found it out now. I could see the family living in a motel for the rest of their lives, while their dad is sitting in a bar every night. Getting mad at the "locals" for ?, I guess doing what they do in a bar in wyoming. Drinking.
The smoking dope part. I have smelled cigars that smell like it. As for the guy that was drunk and then drove home. I figure he knew the way home, and his buddies wanted to stay longer at the bar.

LMAO!!!!
Centennial is a quirky neat little mountain town. Simply put it's an extension of Laramie, so you definately don't want to go there either. I can gaurantee you'll smell pot smoke and see drunks at the Buckhorn. That's just part of the hippie vibe in these towns.
You're reaction is priceless.

I grew up in the lander area, I can think of alot of people such as Mainemom who moved there from Cali, east coast, ect. They really did think they were moving into 'mayberry' - a nice family oriented little town near the mtns - but definately they found that not to be the case (for similar reasons to mainemoms) and most left after a couple years.
There are just as many problems with substance abuse in small towns as there are in cities.

Come to the yuppie capitol of the world, Burlington, VT. I can show you MANY bars where pot smoking drunks need to be carried to their cars. Stay out of bars if you don't approve! And no I don't smoke pot or drink....
BTW if all you can afford is the fleabag motel perhaps you shouldent be wasting your money on booze!
