Default Relocating to wyoming

My family is looking to move west and relocate. We own our own diesel truck and trailer dealership in minnesota and are looking to sell out. We are tired of the taxes and constant stress. My wife has a college degree and i also have post school education and 26 years in the transportation repair industry. My wife has also been in the airline and trucking industry for the last 16 years. My wife and i were both raised in small towns and farming communities and enjoy small town life. We also need to be somewhat close to a town we can make a decent living in. We want to buy some property we can have some cattle and horses. Be able to hunt, fish and atv. Mining and trucking have to be local to support our education and experience. We are possibly looking at towns in the bighorn basin area but have not totally decided yet. We both like drier climates and dont mind the cold and snow. Tired of -20 in minnesota though. A little milder winters would be nice. Does anyone have any recommedations of some good towns to check out. We want to plant our feet and stay. We are not ones to pick up and travel. I have live in mn for 46 years, my whole life and only want to move one last time. Your input is welcome. i have spent time in casper, bighorn mountains, sheridan, gillette, jackson hole etc so i am familiar with all these areas.
Thanks

Most of the mining in Wyoming is near Gillette -- open pit coal mining.

I would say that your best bet for jobs would be in the Gillette area. Although things have slowed down economically here lately, it is still much better than most of the country. If you search all the threads about Gillette on this site you'll find a lot that has been posted about it. We moved here in August and love it here. We enjoy all the things you do...hunting, fishing, ATVing, etc. It's nice being between the Big Horns and the Black Hills. Seems like there are always companies looking for people with trucking experience. Best of luck to you!

Wyoming is beautiful..and much less humid than Minnesota is. Hope to get there myself some day. I wish you and your family luck! Wyonewk and Georgia probably have the best advice, unless you are looking for a total job change. Check out the Wyoming job site to search for jobs in various areas and specialties
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I will check out more on the local job search websites. We are just in the early stages right now. We still have to sell our business and house before we get to far. That could be and undertaking in it self.

I agree with the -20 degrees also. I live in Indy ( indiana) and oh my the weather changes in a blink of an eye. Too many tornadoes also. I will be watching this thread since my hubs is an auto mechanic and we are desperately seeking a slower and nicer way of life.

Auto mechanics are always in demand. It is also easier to make the transition into the industrial mechanic job areas of mines and oil field service if you have been successfully employed as an auto mechanic for several years. The Wyoming job service employment site usually has ads for mechanics in most areas of WY most of the time. Jobs that require these types of skills are always available but you most likely will start in the lower pay area and work back up the ladder. It is very achievable to get back to the upper pay levels in the skilled trades professions within a short time if you have the skills to complete the jobs without a lot of supervision.
