Some of the songs lyrics talk about "hookers" so you must be talking about ***** houses!

See the lyrics here:

Ian Tyson, Summer Wages Tabs, Chords, Lyrics

Quote:
(Chorus)G
In all the beer parlors
F C
All down along Main Steet
C
The dreams of the season
F G
Are spilled down on the floor
G
All the big stands of timber
F C
Wait there just for fallin'
C
The hookers stand watchfully
F G
Waitin by the door

The lyrics also talk about "All the big stands of timber, Wait there just for fallin'"

So probably a better guess is that you are talking about a Saw Mill and the timber industry.

Dubois had a lumber industry for awhile:

Quote:
In 1913, the town expanded with the addition of a hotel, a bar, and a general store, anticipating the arrival of Scandinavian lumber workers brought there by the Wyoming Tie and Timber Company the following year. (All of these structures are still standing.)

In the landscape surrounding Dubois are visible the remains of many wood flumes constructed by the tie hacks who provided the railroad ties that helped to develop the American West. These Scandinavian immigrants cut logs into ties and sent these via the flumes to the Wind River where they floated to Riverton, about 70 miles east, for processing.[10]
Southern Carbon County has lots of forests, researching it I found the following bits and pieces of information regarding the timber industry there. I can't show that it peaked in 1950's, but there was lots of mining and railroad expansion taking place which would have generated a big demand for timber.

Quote:
For many years, Saratoga's largest local employer was a sawmill, owned and operated by one of the large multi-national lumber companies. The sawmill closed in 2003.

Saratoga is one of many western communities economically devastated by consolidation, automation and the changing business practices of multinational timber companies. The town's largest private employer, its sawmill, closed in 2003.

As suggested by the logs in the river, the North Platte was early important in the tiber industry. With the coming of the Union Pacific Railroad further to the north, tie hacks spread across the Midicine Bows. In the spring with high water, the ties would be floated down the North Platte to Fort Fred Steele. The lumber timber industry has until recently remained important to Saratoga. As of this writing, 2007, the former Louisiana-Pacific lumber mill is now closed. The Town has undertaken a study on the feasibility of rejuvenating the timber industry.

the year 1955. 400 employed , with a pay roll of $2,000,000 in Carbon County Timber industry.
During the 70s the large stud mill was here in Afton with probally 5 or 6 small saw mills around the valley, only a couple small mills now and they only seem to saw to order.
Don't see many log trucks on the road anymore, had a few here when Simplot was expanding the Smokey Canyon mine.

your turn CaptRn

Jody_w, That was a tough one, but interesting. And I found information for several more Wyoming Trivia questions while researching it.

Here is one:

Wyoming has one of the most expensive outhouses in America. Where is it and what is its history?

Guernsey, Wyoming - Million-dollar Privy

The "Million-dollar Privy" in Guernsey State Park puts the proverbial "brick sh*thouse" to shame! This massive stone outhouse was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s. It received its nickname since it took a long time to build and cost a lot of money . . . for an outhouse. It includes massive stone buttresses outside that look like they could withstand a major tornado, and huge timbers frame the stalls inside. After using the privy, don't miss the Castle Overlook/shelter building (next to the privy), Guernsey Museum, Brimmer Point Overlook, fireplace at the Red Cloud Picnic Area, and the powder magazine at Camp BR10. These wonderful structures - all built by the CCC -- are some of the best CCC structures in the West. Due to the architectural importance of these structures, part of the park is on the National Register of Historic Places and the whole park is a National Historic Landmark. [Peter S. Tannen, 07/21/2007] Guernsey, WY - Million Dollar Privy
