First American Legion Post was established in the "Ferdinand Branstetter Post number One of Van Tassel, Wyoming in 1919." Ferdinanad Bransetter, a native of Van Tassell was the first soldier to die in the trenches of World War One.

Chief Washakie. He always had the peace and welfare of his people first.
Ha Ha.. I cheated though, that last comment of yours about finding it on google tempted me to find out.
I got a question for you though if you think an answer found by cheating counts!

The horse on the WY license plate has a name. What is it and who/what was it named after?

The bucking horse was drawn by First Sergeant Geroge Ostrom for use as the insignia of the national guard. His thought was "Steamboat". The horse that was never rode. First appeared in 1936.

Correct. I believe the original Steamboat was around in the early teens of the 1900's. I figured you'd get it pretty quickly.

Some folks thought it was Midnight 23. But they were incorrect. I have midnight tattooed on my arm. Made my 8 seconds on the old gal many years ago.

The actual picture or portrait on the license plates were created from a photo of Albert "Stub" Farlow on a bronc named Deadman.
