Little correction... Alan Simpson was a U.S. Senator (and Senate whip), but never governor. Previous to that he was a Wyoming State Representative. His father was both a U.S. Senator and the governor of Wyoming. I believe his son is currently a Wyoming Senator from Park County.

Once, as a newspaper editor, I asked Alan if he was considering running for the governor's office in the '78 election. He replied rather strongly that he had no interest in the executive branch of government. His answer was something like, "A governor does little more than sit behind a big desk. The legislature is where you'll find the action." (Although I'd guess it was a little more "colorful" than that.)

I knew that too about Alan, I just wasn't thinking while I was typing. I met the man briefly myself, as well as his son. Alan's grandson was once a friend of mine.

Heart Mountain, north of Cody.

Quote:
Surrounded by sagebrush basin, Heart Mountain stands alone. Named by the Crow Indians, this mountain is one of the few identifiable features on the maps Lewis and Clark created.

With its unusual limestone cap, Heart Mountain is a puzzle. Geologists from around the world have studied it, yet its origin remains a subject of passionate debate. Somehow it became separated from larger masses of similar formations found sixty miles away in Yellowstone National Park. Moreover, older limestone lies atop younger strata, which is "upside down" in relation to how these strata are found elsewhere.

A little clarification. Are you talking two names as in Rock Springs, or Green River, or are you talking about it being called two different things?

Two different names, not a name that includes two words.

Hint: the difference is subtle.
