I've been in Grand Junction, CO for a while working in and around Rifle, Parachute, DeBeque, etc. and have been doing well hauling water for the rigs and production. Working the summer months, going to school in the winter with my earnings. Gas has been booming there for a while now. But, at the moment it's a bust, my company has laid off just about everyone they had, so no hiring this year.

So, thinking of the oil field in Rock Springs, or elsewhere, in WY. Maybe even ND somewhere. Anyone got any info on this? Is it still going on in WY as it had been, or is it in a slump similar to western CO?

Also, any resources for job search out there? Any web sites in mind or company names that opperate out there? Thanks.

While not a complete "bust", the extractive industries in Wyoming have cut 'way back from the activity of a couple of years ago. We used to see columns of want ads for these jobs in the papers, and now ... for example, the Cheyenne paper ... the total employment want ads don't fill half a page on most days.

A few CDL jobs are available, but many are filled by local word of mouth in the areas to the folks already there and laid off from other work. There's a fair number of folks already here, trying to make ends meet, that willl jump on these jobs for an income to stay here.

Other than watching the Wyoming at Work website, your best bet will be to apply directly to the companies in the area and hope for a job opening, or to network with somebody you know already here in the job field.
