We moved to Rock Springs in October of 2005 for my husband's job (yes, he's a miner) and I love it here. We moved from NM and people there were so rude! The people here just seem generally friendlier to me. There isn't a lot to do, but it's not hard to meet people. My kids aren't in school yet, but there is a Catholic school here that is great. My daughter goes to preschool there and is already learning to read. I don't think the weather is bad, but I grew up in South Dakota where it was very, very cold, and then lived in New Mexico were it was very, very hot, so having seasons (and grass!) is nice.
Housing is insane. We had a list of 10 houses to look at when we were scoping out housing and by the time we got to town to look at them 5 days later only 4 were left! We're in the process of getting ready to sell our house (not my choice, hubby took a job in UT) and we're going to make about $80,000 in just owning it for a year and a half!
It is hard to live here though, it's too expensive, even on my husband's mining income, that's the main reason we are moving. Shopping sucks too, unless you like Walmart and KMart. Not having a Target sucks! lol.

I so agree, imbobbbb! Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. But, my eye recalls much beauty there.

Im really enjoying the responses that I am reading. My wife and I are moving to Rock Springs in just a few weeks. We will be there for 6 months to a year and then be moved to Riverton or Pinedale. What can you tell me about those two towns?

I lived in Green River and Rock Springs for 25 years total. Enjoyed living in both places. Had wonderful gardens in both places. Two kids went to school in RS and did very well. You will either love it or hate it. For some reason women dislike it more than men. You just have to find a group of freinds you can enjoy and spend time learning about and living in the out of doors. There are a lot of things to do if you go and do them. Nice rec center in RS.
Mike 2e I have spent a lot of time in Pinedale and the Windriver Mountains there, loved it ! I think Riverton would be more of a farming community. Pinedale is more touristy.

i really have learned alot from reading everything... my husband and i currently live in lafayette, la and might be relocating to the rock springs area due to my husband's job. he works for schlumberger and one of the places offered to us for relocation was rock springs. i was wondering if anyone could give me information about some of the outlying communities around rock springs, like reliance or north rock springs. also i'm not sure whether we are going to live in green river or rock springs but any info on some good neighborhoods would be nice. oh and we're methodist so if you know of a nice methodist church in the area that inof woulbe be appreciated also. thanks...

You don't want to live in Reliance, trust me. North RS is just a part of town that's a few miles north of the main town, more acreages out there. There is a nice Methodist Church here with a female minister, I'll meet you if you attend!
