Default Riverton/Lander housing

Thanks for the responses. I am trying the suggestions.
I have been once or twice passing by, Riverton.
Would Lander be better, nicer than Riverton, but also which of the two might offer more houses to rent, until we can buy? As I mentioned, our situation is that we have to find a house, not an apartment, as we have 1 dog and 2 cats and have lived in the country. The issue is that we cannot stay separated and pay 2 houses....My husband job would be between Riverton and Lander.
I have not seen Lander but it seems nicer than Riverton.
Is the housing situation equally bad in both places?
As to NOLS, I signed up for their alumni and job lists, but did not see anything as Lander Talk when I had to choose the list I wanted to be subscribed to.
I cannot find any newspaper online with updated listings either.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Riverton generally has more, and cheaper rentals. It's more of a "blue collar" town than Lander, larger, has a college, etc... all which make that true. But you never know what's out there till you look. And you pretty much HAVE to look in person. The few landlords I know (individuals with rental property) fill their rentals by word of mouth, and within a couple of days of mentioning they have an opening (this in Lander). The local Realtors (check with all you can find in both towns) try to keep a good handle on what's out there because the market for rentals IS so tight.

I grew up in Lander and am thus biased, but I feel it's nicer than Riverton.

For the lander talk list, I think they removed it from the web page. I left that list when it started turning into a personal gripe list, and a handfull of people would bicker back and forth, sending dozens of junk emails a day to people who didn't Care about their opinion on whatever the hot topic was that day (politics mostly). To get on it, send an email to:

requests@lists.nols.edu

With a subject and body of:

subscribe Lander-Talk

You'll get an email back telling you how to finish the process (if the email list is still up).
