Michigan To Torrington or Rawlings? Info plz...
Hello, We are looking to relocate possibly to Wyoming(it is one of the three states we are strongly considering at this point), and if so to Torrington or Rawlings (for the prisons- my husband is in corrections).
We are trying to get a feel for what these areas are like. What we want to know is how things compare to Michigan price-wise and tax-wise in Wyoming. I've done my research to be sure, but it's always a different story hearing it from the horses mouth, so to speak.
We are probably going to rent for the first couple of years and then seek more permanent housing when we are most familiar with the area. Also, we have a son who has Asperger's autism, (but is high functioning) so good schools are of the utmost importance to us.
I've also done some research on jobs, and am kind of concerned about the apparent lack of listings in the newspapers. I am sales, have been for a decade. How is the job market in these areas?
Also (and finally!) what is the winter/summer like in these areas? I am assuming we will be dealing with weather similar to that here in West Michigan, but am not sure.
I respect and appreciate your opinions, and thank you so much for your responses!

I lived in Rawlins for 5 years and worked at the hospital. It is nice in the summer but winters can be brutal. Last year my friend told me they had their "50 YEAR SNOW" which was 10 foot snow with 20 foot snow drifts. The people are alright and I have a few friends I still call. Sales jobs would be rough. Oh yeah, Rawlins is 100 miles away in any direction to the next town. There is no Walmart and one grocery store (Kroger) and they boast the highest prices I have ever seen. Torrington is the smarter move for a woman.

Lots and Lots of Michiganders here in Torrington. About 80% of the first class of incomming Corrections Officers for Torrington are from Michigan... and I'm from N Indiana.
I suggest your hubby get in touch with WDOC BEFORE moving out though. Just my 2p...

Torrington definately gets my vote of preference. Consider the Black Hills as a good 'get-away'. Rawlins is closer to WY mountains, but I wouldn't chose to live there (Maybe commute from Saratoga)

Thx for the input, we are going through the hiring process with the wdoc and will not move w/o employment in the area. We are just trying to get a good handle on possibilities at this point. Michigan is sitting at over 15% unemployment, and our area specifically is now over 20%. We need to get out!!

Well, I'm actually staying in the barracks in Guernsey for now until I find a place in Torrington to live, but the move is "progressing" as well as can be expected in the current rental enviornment.
But, I've got another question...
Since I have no tools here, and no access to a garage, I need to find a well regarded/honest Mechanic in the Torrington area to adjust the clutch & do a high-milage Tuneup to my '79 C10 Pickup before winter.
Any suggestions?
Also looking for a good car-stereo place.
Thanks all.

My hubby is a car guy (not as a business, though) so I'll ask him and DM you, since we can't advertise openly on the forum. I know what you mean though....don't want to get duped 'cuz you don't know who's honest and who's not.
