Froggie Legs will become famous soon enoughFroggie Legs will become famous soon enough
When I moved to Lander from Minnesota I did notice the lack of green... while in town it's not bad, as soon as you get out of town it's desert...so I missed seeing trees and green grass. It takes some getting used to. But I will say I did love living in Lander and the people were always friendly. Good luck with your move. Right now it's pretty white there! My aunt said they had over 28 inches of snow in the last couple days.

I was in Lander late last month and as Froggie Legs said, there is green IN town. I'm currently in FL where it's green 24/7 so my move to Lander will be a big change from what I'm used to, that's for sure. As far as wind, there was a light breeze when I was there but I imagine there are seasonal winds to deal with? Lander has a nice shoulder to block the wind: The Wind River Mtns.

I have lived in Lander for 36 years now. Right now we have snow on the ground, and it's 36* out. We do get quite a bit of strong wind in the spring, but summers are beautiful. Hot, and dry though. It's true that it's not very green out of town unless you are in the mountains- in town is beautiful in the summer months, but once we head into July the countryside is turning a bit brown. I will admit I do wish I lived somewhere greener! Lander is a very pretty town, but can be a bit of a culture shock if you are into shopping, night life etc... To do any major shopping outside of Walmart/Kmart (which you have to drive half an hour to get to in Riverton) you need to head to Casper which is approx. 2.5 hours away. Other choices would be to head to Ft.Collins/Denver, or Salt Lake City which is an even closer drive. If you like to do online shopping you will be fine. I do like that it is a safe little town- fairly low crime- big crimes are still a very shocking thing here. Our kids are ages 13, 15 and 18 now, but even when they were younger we felt safe allowing them to go to the City park with friends, or walk or ride bikes around town. We've been happy for the most part with the school system here- I guess every school has it's good and bad. I don't know how expensive land is where you live, but it's pretty pricey around here- most things are!! I hope this helped a little bit, if you have any other questions, I'll try to help.

Anyone with Beach in their name shouldn't comment on Wyoming, ha ha. Seriously, way off the mark.
Lander is beautiful, Cody would be a bit better for your profession. Sheridan and Buffalo would be perfect. Absolutely beautiful. Stay as far away from Jackson Hole as humanly possible. Cheyenne is also great but a bit windier than other places mentioned. Cheyenne is also only 1 1/2 hours from Denver. Easy to find places a bit out of town that still feel like you are living like they did in little house on the prairie.

Snow stands on top of fence post and wire in my part of Wyoming, but then some winters the fences are covered. but then the snow can pile up on the power lines and poles

If wind is an issue research your area carefully. I have relatives in Wyo. and they hardly notice 15 mph "breezes" with 25 mph gusts. It's not typical for all ares, but most places from Cheyenne to Gillette are dry high plains and dry. Regardless of that even the places out of the mountains are IMO are beautiful and the people are great - must be why they pay no attention to the wind..

I'm a weather spotter and have to keep records here in Sheridan. Here is what the wind has done over the last 10 days.

Average for 24 hours, Highest gust
3mph, 5mph
15, 21
6, 15
7, 18
7, 22
12, 33
0, 8
8, 8
0, 11
0, 9

And that's what is recorded at the airport. For those that are not familiar with our airport, it's located on a flat plane at about 3960ft in elevation. No shelter from trees or hills.

I wouldn't call that windy. Just enough to keep the flys away from the bar-b-q.

Hmm. I've been to Area 51. I've also taken I-80 across Wyoming, from Utah to Cheyenne - the "drier" part of the state.

I would have to say that you're... wrong.

I was born and raised in Southern California. For as long as I could remember I wanted to move to Wyoming. Why you ask...I had no clue, I just knew I wanted to live there. Well, my husband got an awesome job here in Casper and moved here the ending of January. Our kids and I followed behind him the ending of April. We wanted to make sure the job was gonna work. Needless to say I went from having sun 365 days a year to finally having seasons. Yes, it is windy here, Yes we get a ton of snow...but it's nothing you can't handle. The snow is beautiful. The wind gets extremly harsh at times. Every place you go is going to have it's own "bad" thing you have to deal with. My kids LOVE it here. They are 3, 2 and 1. We've been to Kaycee and the drive from Casper to Kaycee was roughly 2 hours give or take. The scenery was beautiful! I love it here and do not see myself EVER leaving.
