Default A Wyoming Welcome!

Over the last few days and weeks, I've noticed some posts on the Wyoming forum from new City-Data members, or those that are new to the Wyoming forum. Some of these folks only have a few posts, while others have a few dozen.

I just wanted to welcome those of you that are new to either C-D or the Wyoming forum. This is a great place to learn about a great state. I especially like the Trivia thread, and have learned a lot about Wyoming from it. I've even had the opportunity to post a few questions of my own on that thread.

As one that does not (regularly) reside in Wyoming, I enjoy reading about it here on the forum. Since I do have property there, I also like to keep up on the issues that affect me as a property owner. This forum, in addition to regular news sources, is a good place to stay current on things that are happening in Wyoming.

Again, to all that are new here, Welcome!

Edit: Don't forget to check out the pictures thread, too. It has many wonderful photos of Wyoming for all to enjoy.

Yes, Welcome to all the new comers to the WY forum and a Great Big Welcome to all of our new C-D Wyomingites who have just recently moved to WY. I hope that you find WY is all that you hoped for and more.

I agree that the trivia thread has been very interesting, fun and educational. I have been learning a lot more about this wonderful state. I think I have learned more from that thread in it's short time of existance than I have in all the years I have lived here. Thanks Elkhunter for starting it.

Ditto that! Well, all except the years of living there part (for the time being). Some day, God willing, I'll be able to say that, too!

Well I am kind of new here. Doing alot of research on Wyoming areas. I plan to retire from the service in a few years and use the New GI Bill to goto college full time for 3 years to get my degree. I really cant wait. I have narrowed my choices down to UW and Penn State(my home state). They both have the programs I want. So I am kind of squatting here I guess. I have only been through the state 3 times and it was on the highways. I liked what I saw though. Very gorgeous country up there in WY. Anyway, since I am on this forum figured I would let you know why I am here even though I live in San Diego.

What branch of the service are you in? My son is in the Marines. He just graduated bootcamp back in early Sept. and is now at Camp Pendleton doing further training. He just got put on the Toegunner list. He was hoping for Recon, but Toegunner was his second choice.

What are you wanting to get your degree in?

Next time you get through WY you'll have to take a few pit stops along the way and check out some of the towns. Much of the towns have the feel and style of the Old West, much like Old Town San Diego has the feel and style of Old Mexico.

I am in the USN. As far as a degree, I have been looking at a few options... Engineering (not sure which type yet), Earth Systems Science, or Astronomy (interested in that kind of stuff). I have a trip back east planned during my transfer leave before I move to Hawaii next summer and I am going to stop in Sheridan on the way east for a day. On the way back to the west coast, I will be stopping in Laramie for a day also. From what I have seen in pictures your analogy is correct about Old West and Old Mexico.

My Uncle and cousin were in the USN and they both were recruits in San Diego. I got to see the old ship that recruits trained on while I was out for my son's graduation. Sad to think that, that is about all that is left of the old USN recruiting facility. I also saw the USS Midway while I was there, it was the first thing my son wanted to see after graduation. My Hubby's best friend who was in the USN went to bootcamp back east somewhere, I think it was one of the Carolina's but not sure, but he was stationed in San Diego.

San Diego seemed like a nice place to visit, but I'm not sure if I could live there. I was only there for a couple of days, I would have liked to have stayed longer and saw a few more sites.

I know that San Diego isn't your hometown and that you are only there for a while, but it is your home for now.

When you get ready to come through WY give out a holler and we can hopefully give you some ideas of what to check out on your visit. I'm sure you'll want to check out the UW campus while in Laramie. It's a pretty nice campus. But there will probably be other sites you'll want to see as well.

Your degree interests all sound like great choices. Maybe you can major in one and minor in the other or pick a field of engineering that can work around the astronomy or Earth Systems Science. I'm sure that there are engineers in those fileds as well.

Yep thats what I would like to do, as far as major and minor. I plan on checking out Sheridan pretty thoroughly and Laramie. I stopped in Cheyenne last time I was through for a day so I saw a little bit of it last time through there.

That Marine Corps recruit Depot is called Parris Island;(yep, double R). It is off Charleston, SC, and surrounded by swamps. I'm a 1967 alumni.
Hey WYOQUILTER- you may also consider teaching as a post-military gig... Its not for everyone, but iffin' your a match, it can be a totally rewarding career on numerous levels.
