Question Baggs info please?

How about Baggs? Hubby is now thinking of Baggs since it's closer to where he'll be working. We'll have our 2 teenage daughters with us...how is the town? How is the environment for younger kiddos? And any other question you know that I should ask, feel free to answer.

And thanks once again!

ive never lived there but have been there several times, and looks like a place i'd like.nice mountains just to the east, huge open desert just to the west.very few people live there though and nothing real close in area.craig, colorado is closest town of any size, about 45 minutes south and its not real big either.about 10,000 people.i dont think baggs, dixon, and savery have 500 people combined.if a real small ,isolated town is for you you may like it.there are a couple small stores,a cafe,a couple of motels and 3 or 4 churches.there are a lot of energy jobs to the north around wamsutter, which is a place where about nobody wants to live.there isnt a lot of housing around baggs and it doesnt seem to be real cheap but thats true everywhere within a 100 mile radius of energy jobs

Baggs is beautiful and not that far from Craig Colorado for shopping, I think it was a 30 minute drive. They don't seem to get too much wind, at least not at the Salisbury Ranch where we hunt. There is great Elk hunting on Battle mountain which is about 15 miles east of Baggs. If you don't mind isolation, then you would probably like it there. Everyone in town will know who you are the first week you move there, which is a great way to know what your teenagers are up to. If we could make a living there(building houses) we would seriously consider it.

word of caution is on a distinguished road
I lived in baggs for 7 Years starting when I was 12 - 19 it is a hard place to intergrate to as it is a small!! town you said you have 2 teen daughters from my experience and own personal opinion I would not move my daughters there. All the people do know who you are but with that comes a lot of pressure to be what they expect. At the time my family moved there I was excited to be someplace new but that quickly changed as I went to school and the pressure came down to play sports and you had to be really good or you got looked down upon and once you made one mistake well that was it you are labeled for life. As I got older I fell into a depression my dad wasn't around as much and mom was increasing difficult I wound up carring for my siblings as we were alone much of the time then came High school and boys and parties for us at the time underage just ment do as you like no one will catch us as we are out in the middle of nowhere! Since I left depression has lifted I now have a family all my own. I rarly return only to visit friends I am sorry not to have more positive thing to say good points are close to wildlife & nature. Suicide has increased and isolation is not always a good thing. This is just my personal experience Best of luck!

Default i lived in baggs

i spent a couple of months in baggs in the summer. it had the most beautiful starry sky i have ever seen at night, but otherwise nothing is there, a small school, small motel, and a small store a p.o. and trailers. really boring place to live. i think the population was like 200 when i lived there about 6 years ago.

I have lived in Baggs for 6 or 7 years now. I have 2 children one still in elementary and one in middle school. It took them some time adjusting at first, but they really enjoy it here. It does take time to get adjusted but it's worth it! If kids want to play sports they get to. there is some pressure to play but not bad. There is also more one on one time in the school and lots of trips throughout the school year.

Default We chose not to live in Baggs.

This summer, my family entertained the idea of moving to Baggs or Savery. I was doing a work detail in the area. The work included an option to move to a Baggs office. While there, we met some really terrific people - including an educator living in the community. She raved about the school system and its opportunities. The landscape was beautiful as well.

For me, relocating boiled down to several issues. Housing is extremely limited and new home construction is just as high as the rest of the U.S. In my case, my husband would also have to find a job because we could not live off my income alone. In a community that is so small, he would have a difficult time unless he joined oil/gas.

We explored moving to Craig where I could commute to work in Baggs. Upon further evaluation, I discovered that the number of sexual predators/sex offenders was incredibly high in Craig. Did I want to raise my daughter in that community? NO! Why take the risk?

While in the area, I heard of the "man towns" where oilers stay. Likewise, I stayed in a co-workers home because the motels are dirty and prostitues come frequently for visits. I was not around long enough to determine if these community grumblings had merit, so I can not say if they are true...but I heard them mention several times...and my co-worker would not allow me to stay in the motels. In short, I decided that I really didn't want my daughter raised in that sort of environment either. My luck, she would get pregnant and be forced to marry.

Sorry to be so down. I just thought you should know what factored into my decision to not move to Baggs.

1Scout2,

Thank you for your honesty. Didn't seem you had an agenda, just good honest info.

That's the kind of info a person needs on a community. Thank you.

Default Baggs.....

Baggs is small (400ish people), everyone know everything about everyone...or at least they think they do...housing is veeery tight and some people commute from Craig, CO (40 mi). The school is good and since its so small kids dont get lost in the shuffle.
