DW & I are looking to come over to the Alpine/Jackson area for Christmas Eve through the weekend, and wondered what some of the holiday festivities were for the actual day of Christmas.

Thanks!

You might try looking at these links. They list some of the things going on in Jackson.

We flew into Alpine a couple of years ago to stay at a local B&B for Christmas.

Sorry to say, but the place was pretty much shut down for the winter season and there wasn't anything in the way of holiday festivities going on unless you counted the decorations up at a restaurant we were at for Christmas day dinner.

Public transportation was non-existent, which was a real problem for us having accomodations some distance away from the airstrip ... they did come out and pick us up ... but we were on our own for walking around the area for two days before heading out, shortening our stay by several days. We flew down to White's City to the airstrip (which has since been closed) by the Caverns and toured the Caverns, camping out under the wing of our plane for a couple of days.

Not quite what we'd had in mind when we set out to the B&B in Alpine. I'd landed on another airstrip by a restaurant there, and got a lot of flack for having landed on their private airstrip without prior permission (which requirement wasn't listed on the charts) ... but the flack came out only after we'd had lunch and paid our tab; we were very happy to leave their less than welcoming attitude. Perhaps other folks have a more favorable impression of Alpine than we received ... it was like it was an inconvenience for them to accomodate out-of-area tourists during their holiday season. Rather surprising in view of the warm welcome that most fly-in destinations give visiting pilots ....

I think you'll find that Jackson is far more tourist/holiday oriented for the Christmas season, although it's rather pricey to be there ....

Breer, glad to see you found a good way to spend Christmas! Looks like what you really wanted to do all along was go to Jackson, so it sounds like a good compromise. Have fun!

Hey Dumbear (done any wolf dancing lately? Love that name!), that's the greatest location line I've seen in an long time! Maybe it's because I'm reading "Monte Walsh"...

well it's the truth...sadly I've been unemployed since early october, so I'm living out of pocket and motel rooms, till my cell phone rings with a suitable job offer from a rancher, offering a bunkhouse as part of my wages.
