Can somebody please tell me how the cell phone coverage is in the Jackson & Jackson Hole area? I'd especially like to know how Cingular works in the area. I appreciate any help.

My parents live in Pinedale and they both have to use special antennas on their trucks for their cell phones. They sometimes have trouble in "the bowl", as their cell phone server call the Jackson area. I'm not sure who they use, but if you check servers, you can see their coverage maps online.

I have had two different carriers. If you want good coveage in Wyoming about the only company to use is Union Telephone. If you just want I-80 or bigger town coverage Verizon, but don't plan on going too far off the beaten path with them. My sister who comes to visit has Cingular and can't use her phone at all once she crosses the Utah border.

Default cell phone

I suggest you call information and get a number to a local business that sells service. If there is a local provider you can save a ton of $. Line of sight signal strength is very worrisome in the mountains.

Nextel -
In Feb I had to practically stand on my head to make a call but when I returned in Aug as long as I sat in my inner tube on Flat Creek I could talk all day long. So consider your lifestyle before choosing Nextel.

Sprint -
My mom has Sprint and had no problem getting a connection anytime, anywhere.
Since Nextel and Sprint are the same company I called Nextel and was told it must be my phone and I needed to update! of course.

There is a cell tower on the top of Snow King so the coverage is pretty good. Several of my old buddies out there have even given up their land lines.

I think Silver Star actually has the best coverage. They are a local company but I heard that roaming is free.
