So, I'm thinking that this is kinda' fishy, PaganChild ... a genuine WY G&F study on recreational prairie dog hunts finding that it "strengthens the population"?

It's amazing what you can find out with a quick call to the Lander G&F office (1-307-332-7723), where the "non-game" folks are headquartered. None of them were aware of any such study performed by the Wyoming G&F department. They don't consider the prairie dog anything but a nuisance and don't have the funds to do such a study compared to more important work.

I also checked with the G&F headquarters in Cheyenne, and nobody there had heard of such a study, either.

Perhaps you'd like to re-check your "facts", PaganChild? maybe this mythical research was a "study" conducted by a student in a bar in Laramie over a few beers? Or, maybe you'd like to tell us where this "study" was published and by whom?

Oh, and I've been there when livestock had to be put down after breaking a leg .... so much for that being an "urban myth". Right here on my property, a leaseholder had to butcher out a cow rather than let it suffer with a detached hoof. We ran my 4020 Loader over to the poor cow, put her down, and chained her up right there in the field to dress her out and quarter her.

I also know of horses that hyperextended a leg breaking through a prairie dog hole, and tore ligaments and damaged muscle tissue/joints so that they were lame; one horse never recovered fully and is only minimally ridable today, but not the round-up horse he used to be.

I don't know how many hours I've spent taking care of the little critters, and then taking a spade and closing up holes. A lot of people claim they are taking care of the problem, but they don't close them up.

This argument is like the energizer bunny, it keeps going and going and going...And it still hasn't effected my ability to hit these little targets at 400 yards. Some of these dirt digging fir balls even appear to jump for joy when I hit them. Some can't contain their excitement, and they just explode

I was hoping this thread had finally worn itself out when it got to page 2. Too bad it's risen from the dead.

But you, .204, you've just got to make it as disgusting as possible.

I'm not getting back into this one! But couldn't you tone it down just a little? I mean, it's clear what needs to be done and the reasons for it, so the extra zingers seem excessive.

Me too, But maybe we should start one on shooting in general? Share some points, loading data, longest shot, tightest shot groups, reloading equipment etc.

I'd enjoy studying that type of thread. I enjoy learning of the mechanics and intracacies of guns, ammunition, ballistics, optics, target shooting, etc.
