My husband has 35+ years of working with horses, managing horse farms, training them etc. He is also a contractor by trade and has a CDL license. We are from a very small town in New York State (pop. 350 in winter). Ever since 911, many NYC residents who have "summer homes" in our town are moving here year round and trying to change our ways.
We took a trip to Wyoming last year and have decided to move there because we loved the small towns and found the people to be truly genuine. We found Lovell and Big Horn area to be a great comprise but I was not sure where the best area should be for us to be looking for a job for my husband. He really wants to deal with horses and/or ranching but is willing to fall back on construction or trucking if needed. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much. |

I live in the area- and am involved in equine. Wyoming is the number one state for unemployment-Montana is number two. Finding a job with horses would be seasonal, if at all. Construction might be an option, but not constant. I do not know about trucking. Many men have to go to the mines to work- out of the city for one month at a time. There just isn't work here, because it is so small. Ranching will pay about $8.00 /hr, maybe a small home to live in. Again, not much for jobs. It is beautiful here! It is good for retirement. Do you have children? The schools are not rated well- I put a post- answer to a question on page one. I do not know what kind of living /working situation you are in now, so am trying to let you know what is here. Good luck.

I live in southeastern wyoming. There are ranch jobs in the area. Construction jobs are everywhere - just need to be able to pass a drug test. You might check with the Wagonhound in Douglas WY for horse jobs. They are a huge operation with horses and cattle. They have a website. Jobs are not as seasonal in this area as the winters are milder.
