Are these 2 small towns cliquey? Are they accepting of new families or do they shun people moving in from out of state, or even from out of those towns?
I have 3 kids ages 5 to 11, would they be accepted or would they find problems?
Thank you.

I would say that Ranchester is less cliquish than Story. As far as Story goes they are about on par with Sheridan and as sad as it is to say this Sheridan can be cliquish. I do know that they have great schools in Ranchester. There are several folks that live in Sheridan that send their kids to Ranchester to school and their kids seem to be doing pretty well.

I think of the two towns, I would suggest Ranchester over Story as a place to raise your kids. I have known to many kids from Story who always seem to be in trouble or into drugs. I think that it's mostly due to the fact that there is so little for kids to do in Story. Story is a great place for adults, but it's not geared for kids.

Kids in Story would either come into Sheridan or go to Buffalo to attend school once they get into Jr. High. All Story has is an elementary school out there. Buffalo and Sheridan both have great schools. I'm more partial to Sheridan schools over Buffalo schools. I did attend school in both towns at one time, but not because I lived in Story, and I liked Sheridan better of the two. That was more due to the people in both towns and not the teaching. Buffalo was bit more cliquish than Sheridan at least when I went to school there.

As far as Ranchester goes, they have the elementary school that serves both Ranchester and Dayton and Dayton has the High School that serves both towns. I can't remember right off where the Jr. High is though. A lot of the kids in Ranchester are into sports and FFA. The kids that I have met from there all seem to be pretty good kids.

On Edit: I forgot to add that either of the towns will be accepting of new comers, but I think you would find Ranchester to be more accepting of the two.

I agree with wyoquilter completely. I live in the Ranchester area. Not actually in Ranchester, but close.

The people here are very friendly and I have not run into any problems with the town being cliquish.

Story is very open as far as "Neighborhood" is. The houses are not close together. Everybody has acres, not neighborhoods. As such if your child wants to play with a classmate, they might be down the road 2 miles.

Ranchester is more like a little town that is more compact. I can look out the window and see 6 or 7 kids playing together that are 10 yrs old or less every day.

As with any very small community (701) grocery's cost more. But I shop in Sheridan and only pick up an occasional gallon of milk out here. Milk in Sheridan is $1.98 a gallon (last one I bought) and out here it's $2.98. But if you plan right, you're fine.
