I just wanted to give all you teachers out there who are considering moving to Wyoming (or from one town to another in the state) a heads up that the district I work for here in Campbell County (Gillette) has listed several openings, almost all for elementary teachers. We are opening a brand new school in the fall, thus the expansion. There are also a few jobs open at other schools, as well as an elem. principal position, technology teacher, a special ed teacher spot, and some special ed assistant positions. The junior high and high schools haven't started putting out any announcements for openings yet. This district is AWESOME to work for. The pay is at the top of the pay range in the state and much higher than some surrounding states. Benefits, etc. are great, and the district invests a lot of money in the kids. The coal industry is the main tax base here. The cost of buying housing has come down considerably here in the last year, as the general economy has taken a bit of a hit, although it is way better than in most places. Rentals are still quite high, but a lot easier to find than they were a year ago. If interested you can go to www.ccsd.k12.wy.us, then go to employment, open positions, & on from there. The wage scale for this year is also posted there. We moved here from Montana before the fall of '08 and have loved every minute of it. We should have done this a long time ago. It is especially much better for us financially. If you have any other questions please ask!
Georgia

Thanks for keeping us posted Georgia! Just got my resumé tweaked and ready to go! While I would prefer to work in a high school setting, I am licensed 5-12th in Language and Communication Arts and really enjoyed working with the 5th and 6th graders I've subbed for in the Elementary schools.

For the 5th & 6th graders you'd have to have an elementary certification in most schools as most teachers here teach all subjects through 6th grade. I don't know how hard it would be for you to get certified in elementary. You may want to check into that. Your best bet would probably be to hang in there & see if a high school or junior high opening pops up! I'm still watching out for ya, girly!

Good luck Froggie!!!

Wish there were some P.E. positions open although I still haven't done anything in terms of paper work for Wyoming. I think there's reciprocation with Ohio but I'm sure I'd still have lots of hoops to jump through.

Thanks for the update Georgia. You're awesome.

The test for teaching in Wyoming isn't hard. There's an online study guide. You'll just need a proctor for the exam (Principal, professor). Good luck to you too!
