2000 agl would be about 8000 to 9000... But I would be really extra careful about the wind... especially when fully loaded. And in WY wind sockets are chains hanging from a pole...

Not anymore...
But maybe again in a while. I used to fly back in Europe but had to give it up. If I get up there again it will be out of KTOR. Winds get easily in the 20-40 range, mostly from the NW, which can be a drag (!). That makes trips difficult when you are in the upper envelope. A clear week in winter could be just gorgeous though... the Rockies on the left, the Wind River on the right, the Uintas ahaead and the Tetons far to the northwest...

OK... I read over all the pilot posts here and didn't see anything that I felt was a problem or indication of violations. Please quote/post what you saw that would concern the FAA. Perhaps I missed something?
Thanks,
Troy

I realize this thread is old but I'm curious, too. I consider myself quite versed in the FAR's and didn't see a thing that would raise a flag.
I have been reading here for a while but never posted--I'm curious....
TGM--I've been flying in Wyoming for quite a few years--if ever you return and have any questions I'd be glad to try and help....

I'm back!
Hey - it's been a long time! I just found this post again (had forgotton about it) and wondered if you guys were still hanging around on this forum..
Cloudfish: Thanks for the comment. I was an airport security director in Houston and so I know the FAA regs very well as you do... I was waiting on that poster to qoute something he thought was "bad" before I raised the "BS" flag on him It was obviously not a pilot. Where do you fly out of?
UPDATE for everyone: I ended up moving to Laramie end of 2005. I have been up 30 to Medicine Bow, but still have not made it up to Hanna yet.

Greetings
I've been flying out of Casper now for the last 10 years---before that I was flying out of Laramie. In Laramie I was instructing on my off hours of my regular jobs and flew with CAP, too.
Unfortunately now I don't have access to a plane for "personal" travel---but I'm flying King Air's for a living....

Awesome. I would love to get "paid" to play with a King Air!
I had a Piper Arrow PA28-200 in Texas, but couldn't convince my partners to move to Wyoming with me...
I'm currently in the market for a Cherokee Six 300 or Beech A-36 (I need a 6-seater). I'm leaning toward the Cherokee due to the cheaper insurance for the fixed gear.
Wyoming flying is very different - I never had 50-70 knot headwinds in Texas!
