In the thread pertaining to Bill Ayers I "Chewy" Got a bit snippy venting at CptnRn. I am new to the Forum and crossed a line. The truth is I have done alot of research on Bill Ayers as well as people like Van Jones, Mark Lloyd,Carol Browner and many others like them and have developed very strong and well educated opinions on where they want to take our country. I have become a little touchy after being referred to as a raciest or a bigot because I oppose most of our Presidents agenda, so after being referred to as "ignorant" and "seeing overweight people as my enemy" I lashed out and got nasty. So, to CptnRn I sincerely apologize, I have read many of your posts now and you seem like a good guy. I hope we can put it in the past and I promise to "Play nice". Deal ?

I took part in that thread and you know what, chewysplace? You're alright. As you roam and post more on these threads, I think you'll find many who have very strong and well-educated opinions, even if they sometimes may be different than yours.
Personally, that's what I like about this forum. I'm educated in many areas and have beliefs and opinions, but whenever I read something that differs from my opinions, I stop, consider them, do more research, discuss them here and see my world from a broader perspective. Kudos to you chewsplace!!

Be grateful you have that option (on Wyo Forum). There are some state forums that will banish you from C-D for disagreeing with the "State" agenda or a poster, or even giving an accurate assessment of why not to relocate there (like wind or something that serious). Some great long-time contributors have been axed just for disagreeing, even with an honest, sincere, and accurate rebuttal.

I laughed out loud, StealthRabbit. We WANT people to know about our intense wind in WY....might keep our state population under 500K.

Thank you for the apology. Please accept mine as well. I crossed over the line of civility in some of my comments. I do think that civility is absolutely necessary in political discussions and that democracy cannot survive without it.
I have been growing increasingly concerned with the lack of civilized discussion we are seeing in political debates these days. I am happy to see in this national poll by the Allegheny College that I'm not the only American who feels this way.
MEADVILLE, Pa. – April 21, 2010 – In one of the first comprehensive studies of how Americans view the tone of political discourse, researchers find troubling signs.
Although an overwhelming number of Americans say they believe civility and compromise are essential characteristics of a democracy, they also say that they do not see these values reflected in today’s political environment. Instead, citizens say they see rancor, anger and hostility — and they’re worried.
Asked if Americans should be proud or ashamed of the way elected officials handled the health care reform initiative, 69 percent said “ashamed” and only 21 percent said “proud.”
“While politicians and pundits will debate the causes and impacts of the deterioration in political civility, it’s heartening to see that Americans – adults with widely differing demographic profiles – overwhelmingly agree that coarseness and lack of respect are unacceptable,” said Daniel M. Shea, Allegheny College political science professor and the study’s lead author. “Many have assumed that our heightened interest in politics is fueling the rudeness. It’s not true. People are attentive, ready to speak their mind, but they also know that politics doesn’t have to be vicious and mean-spirited.”
The study also asked respondents to help create a rule book for political discourse. Ten items were assessed. Among the findings:
89 percent thought belittling or insulting someone should be against the rules
89 percent said comments about someone’s race or ethnicity should be considered unacceptable
87 percent said personal attacks should be out
85 percent thought shouting over someone during an argument should be against the rules.
Seventy-three percent said elected officials should do what is “good for the nation” instead of what is “popular with voters.” And 85 percent said elected officials should pursue friendships with members of the other party.
A broad willingness to compromise was another key finding of the study. “Contrary to what some have suggested, a vast majority of Americans want middle-ground solutions on a range of issues,” Shea said.
Lets all try to do better in the future, the success of democracy depends on it.

First off, thank you for responding and accepting my apology, and thank you to everyone that wrote to support me. After having a few days to think about what I had written it really hit me that I was guilty of doing the same thing that I am constantly complaining about that the main stream media is doing to those of us who do not support the Presidents agenda, as I have also been increasingly upset by the lack of civility in political debate these days. When I see people on TV talking about how the only reason we oppose Obama is because we are a bunch of redneck raciest, it drives me up the wall, and that Nancy Pelosi, I'v gotten to the point that the sound of her voice makes me cringe(I call her the crypt keeper, remember that show "Tales From the Crypt", sorry had to through that one in.) Anyway we should be able to talk about issue's with out insulting each other.
So, I am happy to put that issue behind us and that you know that what I wrote that day is not who I am. Sometimes it slips out in frustration.
Kudos to you all for the nice comments, the apologies, and the acceptances of such! It's great to realize that our opinions may differ from others, but we can all be friends! That's what I love about Wyoming. I have been on this forum for quite some time and once someone really bashed me for something I said....it was taken completely out of context from what I was actually TRYING to say! Other than that, I've found the most gracious of people here on the Wyoming forum. It is top notch compared to another state I used to frequent Thanks again for all of your kindness!
