I love SC more every day. Today when I went to open up a bank account, the lady who was helping me, who was a wonderful woman, gave me a magazine about York County.

Inside that magazine was an article about Stricklands opening up a custard stand....I did a double take...surely this can't be MY STRICKLANDS CUSTARD STAND from Akron Ohio can it?

My mom and dad used to pile us kids in the car from our little farm town on the outskirts of Akron, and take us to Stricklands on Sunday evenings...everybody's parents did it. It's a tradition there. I've been eating Stricklands for over 50 years.

Imagine my surprise to find out one of the grand children (may even be a great grand child) moved to the Ft Mill area and is opening his custard stand.

Ah....a little bit of home, from way way back, right around the corner from me.

SC I'm so glad I found you

It's right next to Towne Tavern where the True Value was (I hate Lowe's). There is also Majistic Cafe: Ice Cream, Cakes, Coffee, Food about 10 minutes away in Rock Hill and they are open til 11pm.

Frozen custard is different than ice cream in 2 ways. One, it is made with about 1.4% eggs. Two, it is served warmer than normal ice cream so as not to numb your tastebuds so you get the full flavor. It's good stuff.

Mrs. p

I am from Akron and live only 2 miles from that magical ice cream stand. Matter of fact went and stood in line Sunday for 15 minutes to get a large Vanilla cone. I am moving to Pelion maybe I outta get a francise in SC. so that I can still have stricklands. I have thought about a lot of things I am leaving, but forgot about them.

I can't wait to get up there and tell them, I've been eating their custard for over 50 years. I remember my mom spoon feeding me custard.
Sunday evenings, everyone went up, watched the planes at the little airport across the street and back then got to see the ONLY blimps (Goodyear's) at the air dock. The air dock is a neat place.

I'd really be happy if we could get Swenson's down here with their cheeseburgers!! I'm working on it One of my sons good good friends is a manager of one of the Swenson's. If they'd just give someone that secret receipe (I do know honey is in it) someone could open up a Swenson's !

I also miss chicken paprikash from the New Era Cafe on E. Market. I got some when I was home a month ago, got a Swenson's cheeseburger too
