Some department is replacing the railroad ties in downtown Rock Hill, from near Anderson Road down to Black Street.
I see they are bundling up, the old ties, that are still is good shape.
Others are being left unbundled.
I could use maybe 75 feet of them, but I'm not sure who to call to see if citizens can take the extras.
I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but you never know.
They won't let you take anything at the recycle centers. I ship packages and wanted a few newspapers for stuffing, and they refused to give me any.
Anyone have any free railroad ties that are not rotten or warped, or know where I can get some?
I think that is still Southern Railway (now Norfolk Southern.) You can call their office in Rock Hill but I will tell you now the answer is like you said no they are not free.
People have been put in jail for taking the railroad ties they are removing. They might sell you a bundle, however many they put in a bundle. But several years ago they wouldn't even sell us the old ones they were removing in another area of RH.
all the bundled ones are gone, and there was a pile of odd ones left. Some guy said, go ahead.
Well, I tried and they were too heavy to get one in my truck.
