Should Lancaster be added to our new York County sub-forum?

You should title this forum "York, Chester, Lancaster, Fairfield, Chesterfield, Union, and Kershaw Counties (Olde English District)." This site is to tell people about South Carolina, so let's do that. It does not matter what people from other states want to call it; it matters what South Carolinians actually DO call it. Anyone from SC will tell you that.
All of these counties have a lot to recommend themselves to people, and some people are NOT looking for a place to work but are looking for an affordable place to retire; this is where this site can be so invaluable. We should provide the appropriate information for everyone, including retirees looking for an affordable place to retire. Call this area by its correct name and include the correct counties, NOT just the "larger" counties. |

Most certainly, Lancaster Co. should be included as part of the proposed forum, however, "Old English District" is not such a great idea. Locals don't even know what that means, so of course people from other areas will be completely in the dark. Perhaps---"North-Central Metro Area of SC." BTW, Kershaw Co. is part of the Columbia metro area and should be included as part of Columbia's forum---it is far removed geographically and socailly from the rest of the proposed area.

The other reason I suggested to add Lancaster County (to the York County sub-forum). This place (Indian Land) is only in its infancy stages of growth...and will continue to grow at an incredible pace. |

I was born and raised in York County and the only place I have never, ever heard of this area being called the Olde English district. I'm 33, so perhaps it is an older generation thing?

Again, I repeat, I DO NOT want to call it the OLDE ENGLISH DISTRICT; I simply want the names of ALL the counties in the Olde English District listed as part of the same group, which it certainly is; read my previous post, carefully. If you create a new subforum, give the other counties some name recognition as well. A lot of these counties are perfect for retirees; the young people will look at the threads about York and Lancaster certainly, but the older people will be much more interested in some of the other counties. For example, Camden is a beautiful place and would be perfect for many retirees. Camden has a long steeplechase history, and not many other counties can say that! (Please see link: Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center – Visit Camden – South Carolina). Let's give Kershaw County (where Camden is located) the recognition it deserves! This is supposed to be a site about different cities in the US; let's include ALL the different cities by grouping them appropriately. This should be true for all the states on this board, not just SC. ![]() |

No to the Olde English district. Nobody will know what it is and people like to see something familiar when researching. I live in Olde Williamsburg, but most people in Fort Mill could not tell you what that is either. Yes to adding Lancaster. As stated above, part of Indian Land (Lancaster County) is sometimes referred to as Fort Mill, because of the zip code(s). However, many people want Fort Mill for the schools (not that Indian land schools are bad).

Again, I do not want to call the subforum the "Olde English District;" I simply want the names of all the counties that comprise the Olde English District listed as part of the same group, which it certainly is.
Otherwise, just leave things as they are. Last edited by brightcopperkettles; 08-07-2007 at 01:14 PM. |
