House shopping in Rock Hill
I picked up a few house books at Harris Teeter, and I discovered houses are very cheap in York County. Anyways, im noticing all the cheap ones are in Rock Hill. A lot of them are very cute, with 2 bedrooms or even 3, with a lot of perks. My question is, are these probably cheap because they are in a "bad area" of Rock Hill? Is there another downside to Rock Hill, where people dont want to own due to taxes or something else? I can list the streets im looking at if that helps.

Well... the only street name I recognized is Saluda because it is a fairly main road cutting through south Rock Hill. I looked up all of the others and see that they are all south and south east of downtown Rock Hill in what I think are fairly old areas, except for Soft Winds Village Drive.
That looks to be a new area in West Rock Hill a bit in a rural area. I looked up the street name in Allen Tate realtors and see new houses offered over $100,000 and one resale for $59,000 or so. That one does not say it is a foreclosure or short sale, but it must be. Anyway, that could be a very good value if nothing is wrong with it.
There are very old areas of Rock Hill as well as some that are newer and those that are quite new. Obviously, the homes get bigger in the later years as well as the prices are much higher.
Taxes are not bad in Rock Hill but that of course is relative to what you had before you lived here. We have doubled the size of our house and pay 1/3 the taxes we had up north. Needless to say, we are quite happy with that.
Good luck with your search.

We are happy with a small house, as its for my mother. 1-2 bedrooms are enough, one floor and nothing too fancy. Im find A LOT of this criteria, but, I want her to live in a safe area, where she can go outside and do gardening, hang clothes out to dry and be able to sit on a patio and read the paper.
Soft Winds Village Drive seems very new, and is a little bit in the woods, but thats a plus. I dont want her being on a main road, a side street is much better.

That's quite a list of streets on the same side of town!
You may want to check out the RHPD's website with Crime Statistics:

Some of the streets you have listed are NOT in a safe part of town. I lived in Rock Hill for 8 years and those streets listed have alot of crime!!!! I would stay clear of them!!!!!!!!! I would stay over near Harris Teeter or near the rock Hill airport that is not a bad area or out near the york side. Do not go near downtown that area has alot of crime!! Good luck with your house search

if you want a good agent to get you the right house, in the right neighborhoods, and right price range, let me know. Mine helped me sell one and buy one. They know all the "other" parties you may need, like the lawyer for the contract, inspector who finds things you would never look for so you can ask the seller to fix them, a contractor to do the repairs.
