I went back again today to Empire to check out more than just the Pizza. I tried the stromboli with saussage and it was good. Different than what I had but NJ and LI stromboli could be different. The stuff I would eat would be like a log roll, of cheese, spinach, pepperonni and often other stuff rolled up in dough in layers of dough and stuffings. Either way it was good and looked good too!
Told them today that they need a bakery, I think the concern is the cost to get involved and that there would be little volume of business since those products really need to be sold either the same day or in no more than 2 depending on the product. Cannoli can last a couple of days in a glass display but some breads need to be sold the same day.
I'll have to try Luigi's next! But that is a bit farther if I don't happen to be working there. I got a few menu's and the wife is going to spread them at work, they have 2 offices in town one of them is a few hundred yards away.
Villa Antonio is a different story, went there 2 years ago before the infant came and the 8 year old could watch the 80 year old, we got to find a sitter we can afford so we can return. Expensive but yes very good.

Hey Rich,
Luigi's is da bomb...I go a bit out of my way when I get close just for 2 slices @ lunch...I've only been to the original one on North Tryon by the Super Walmart though...
I think there the closest I've had to "NY PIZZA" - and every time the paper comes out with the ny style pizza joints, I hit 'em all...
FYI - I'm from Sheepshead Bay and Brighton Beach, so I know my pizza too!

If you live in the area, check the India Hook United Methodist church sign for their church BBQ announcement. It's available for take out only a few times a year, and usually a nice guy named Pete is there selling it.

We are the new owners of Carlos Cafe, I was born in Cuba and came to the US at a young age, also lived in Union City NJ for a couple of years and then we moved to SFL where we lived up until 3 years ago. Can't speak for previous owners, but I can assure you that our restaurant is spotless, we had our last health inspection on Tuesday of last week and we scored 100. I will tell you that we gutted and remodeled the entire restaurant, it's nothing like what it was before in every sense of the word. I am a neat freak.. Did I mention I was Cuban? As per the authenticity of our food, well it's what I know and what I grew up eating. My husband is Italian/American, but I think he may have been Cuban in another life. He has embraced our culture, language and food as his own. I would love for you and your wife try our restaurant again. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and you will not be disappointed. Looking forward to meeting you.

Hi!
We are new customers of your restaurant and want to agree with you that your place is very clean! We met your husband last week and he kindly explained the specials since the four of us are newcomers to this area and to Cuban food. Your food was very good and we will definitely be back!
