Brunch ?? Diners, and BBQ
Well we were going to go out to brunch today but I got no response to a new posting I did last night. Ballentine Resort is only on special occasions and we don't know of any other place. I thought I saw a mention of brunch here but with 36 pages of posts I can't find it! Man this has become a LONG THREAD but quite necessary I think.
A lot of people stated here they were looking for breakfast and I agree, breakfast seems to be a very important part here in the south. With shame I'll state I was a Yankee once, many years ago but I handed in my Yankee Membership Card about 19 years ago so don't hold it against me. What I miss and the only thing I miss that I think a lot of people would enjoy is a honest to goodness Diner. Open 24/7 serving all meals at any time of the day, shrimp scampi at 8am sure... eggs and grits at 9pm sure! I don't think a lot of them would survive like they do in NY/NJ but I think a couple placed in smart locations would, we just don't have the constant day/night traffic and life here as is common up in the north but I think there is enough people/traffic to handle 2 of them in the York/Lancaster area.
Lastly I was by 521 BBQ again last week. Great as always... make sure you pay them a visit soon. They are now closed on Monday's, I think it starts THIS monday. I was speaking to the cashier there, possibly one of the owners and she did state that traffic has been slow the past serveral months and I did not have to wait last week as I have in the past. I REALLY do want them to do well, they do make a good que. I have seen food establishments come and go just in the few years I have lived in the area. Some have a hard time since they STINK but others are good but still don't survive and I can't understand it! I am not saying that 521 will not survive but business has been slow so show your support if you like them as much as I do, I am sure it will be appreciated and it will insure that they have a reason to stay in business or we will just be lamenting as we have with other places about another one lost to the economy.
P.S. Slow Smoking in the Newport area of Rock Hill is open again. They are right in the front yard of the Wallmart under construction at 901 and 161. Th/Fri/Sat 11-2. They are some of the most friendly people you can ever meet and the food is good. I have not been there since they have opened again but their Buffet is good but check, at times depending on how much traffic they are seeing they may or may not put out the spread. That's a lot of food to put out if not enough people will be coming in to eat it. They have never closed but just held up on the lunches during slow times due to holidays and the wallmart construction. In the meantime they have been smoking/frying turkey's and doing catering on and off premises, I think last night they had a HUGE crowd there, the parking lot was full.

Brunch suggestion...
Here is a cool place to have Sunday brunch. It is in Fort Mill.
Longitude 81 Degrees
971 Gold Hill Rd
Fort Mill, SC 29708
(803) 802-9981
It has a Latin / Caribbean flair. The Sunday brunch menu includes, low country shrimp and grits, Shrimp omelets, fresh fruit, Eggs Benedict with Hollandasie sauce and plenty more. They also have an outdoor sitting area that is great in the warmer weather. Prices are pretty good. Last time, we went for brunch the bill came to about $35 for a party of two, which include appetizers, fruit and main entrees.

I have come to learn now that Brunch does not mean the same thing to everyone. When I stated Brunch I should have stated Buffet Brunch, sorry for assuming, most if not all of the Sunday Brunches in FL were buffet.
We ended up going back to Waldhorn on Sunday morning, not York or Lancaster but close enough in Pineville on old 521 I believe just behind the mall. VERY NICE!
My wife and I had gone there for a German dinner on Saturday night, our first date in over 4 years now. The food was good and we saw they had a Buffet Brunch but were looking for another option since we had just been there a few hours earlyer! I am glad we went back with the clan, everyone had something they liked.

Waldhorn is a great restaurant and didn't know they had a Sunday brunch buffet. It definitely sounds like something, I would like to try, thanks for venturing out there and bringing knowledge to this forum.

Sal you say Longitude 81 for brunch but when you state cost and main entrees it appears as if it's not an open buffet, is that correct ?
I'm just trying to find all the options in the area for Sunday buffet brunches, if Pineville is it so be it but for some of us it's a bit far. Door to door is 55 minutes for us. Longitude 81 maybe is about 15 minutes less, not much but we like options.

It is not an open buffet. They have a separate brunch menu, but a la carte. Sorry.

Glad you enjoyed it. I wish we were a bit closer to make it a regular thing but we are a bit far away, those in FM will not not even notice since it's so close by. We will go on occasion when time permits but like you said it's a great place to sit back relax and enjoy.

Dutch Mill Fort Mill and Rock Hill
About a week ago I stopped by the Dutch Mill in Fort Mill for lunch with the boss, service was GREAT and the food was very good, thanks for the tip!
Now a lot of people have spoken about the Rock Hill one here and since I had a day off and some spare time I drove out of my way over there just to try it out. The food was good but the service was lacking quite a bit. It was not too busy, the first waitress that took my order was nice and sweet, food came out in OK time but I noticed some other customers starting to wonder and fidget. When my plate came out it was kind of tossed there and that's it, kind of rushed and not a word, no one ever came by to see how it was let alone for a refill of my drink the entire time I was there. I even waited a bit extra to see if they attempted to come by but gave up without asking for a refill since I had some drinks in the truck.
Don't think I'll return to the Rock Hill location but FM get's "2 thumbs up" from me and hope to try out a bit more of the menu.
