Moving From Richmond
Hello!
I am married with 3 kids - one middle school, one elementary and one in pre-school.
I am getting transferred to Charlotte and am interested in the Fort Mill area.
We are looking for a house in the 450k range...any recommendations on subdivisions, developers, schools to go to / stay away from, etc.?
Also, what time do I need to leave Fort Mill to have a reasonable commute into Charlotte? (Define reasonable as less than 30 minutes)
Thanks.

I will be relocating to Charlotte from Richmond as well. From my time here on city-data, I've heard to stay away from Lancaster (Indian Land) schools. I guess its a matter of opinion but I've heard that Fort Mill schools are rated higher. What industry are you in?

I would consider Lake Shore, Baxter Village, Sutton Place, the Reserve at Gold Hill. I think that if you leave by 6:45 or 7 am you should be ok on commute times, but when you visit the different communities I would just ask

Divine2u, I thought I'd read every post (for at least the last six months) concerning Fort Mill and Indian Land. Maybe my memory is failing me, but I'm trying to think of one post which advised readers to "stay away from the Indian Land schools." In fact, the IL schools are considered quite good. If you decide to go elsewhere, may it's you and your children's loss.

Before school started, you could have that commute at any time of the morning. Now that school is in session it's been a little hairier - but never longer than 40 minutes (I drive during the 8:00 - 8:30 range). On the morning news traffic reports, those who leave Fort Mill anyime between 6:30 and 7:00 seem to have it made. Don't know about anytime after 7:00 since the Today show comes on and they don't give Charlotte traffic updates.

Like I said, I'm basing that on what I've read. Maybe we haven't read the same posts but I have read SEVERAL posts speaking about Indian Land schools.
Regardless, its still a matter of opinion (like I stated). Parents should do their own research when it comes to making decisions like that for their children. Indian Land schools may be very nice for you and for your family, so I hope that you did not take offense to my statement.[/

I live in Fort Mill and if I leave before 7:00 it takes about 20 minutes to get to Uptown Charlotte and after 7:00 anywhere from 30-40 mins. We moved here 3 years ago from the DC area and love the schools in Fort Mill

I live in the eastrn part of Fort Mill (still in York County) and in rush hour it would take about 45 minutes to get uptown, but my job isn't all the way uptown so it's 25-30 minutes. If you are close to 77, uptown is not that bad and there is an express bus which leaves from near Baxter Village to uptown.
