Default What Area Best for Horses & Schools?

I'll bet that combo doesn't come up very often here!

I'm considering taking a job in Rock Hill & will be moving from northern NJ. My 5-yr old daughter has been riding ponies since the age of 2.5 & she isn't about to give it up anytime soon. She starts kindergarten next week but will be going to a private Catholic school. We'd like to keep her in pvt Catholic school.

I understand (from reading this Forum) York has many subdivisions & housing areas that are horse friendly in that they either have equestrian centers nearby or the lots have enough acreage so you could own a horse if you wanted. I've seen some houses advertised as such but haven't seen any subdivisions like that but read they do exist. Anyone know of any I could look at on the 'Net?

As for schools, I have no idea where/which would be a good private Catholic school in that area. Anyone?

TIA.

You are fortunate to be working in Rock Hill if you are looking for horse country nearby. Ft. Mill and Clover in York County, the Waxhaw area of Union County, the Edge Moor area of Lancaster(?) or is it Chester county, (not sure) all are horse areas.

Not sure about Catholic schools nearby.

There are two places that I know of that teach riding to five year olds (most riding schools start at age 7-8). One is in Lynwood Farms and the other is in Waxhaw. There is a Catholic school in Rock Hill but the Catholic church in Fort Mill only has preschool. I know there is a couple of catholic schools in Charlotte but I don't know where they are. Either way though, I think that you won't be convenient to both. I could be wrong but as far as I know there is not one single riding school in the Rock Hill area. There may be some folks that give lessons but not a place with an actual lesson program.

Catholic schools are few and far between in the south so you might be better off living closer to the school. Waxhaw area is probably your best bet to be close to both but then you might have a drive to work.

If you want more specific info, pm me.

I have also tried to look for information online regarding equestrian communities and actually found that this site is the most helpful.

The two neighborhoods mentioned above, Lynwood Farms (Fort Mill) and Cherokee Farms (Clover) are fairly new and are still being built out so new or newer homes are available. They have private boarding facilities within the neighborhood, but do not allow horses on individual lots. Black Horse Run is an older (30 yrs) neighborhood on the east side of Fort Mill in the Indian Land area. This neighborhood is zoned to allow horses on individual properties and it also has a community riding ring and trails throughout the neighborhood behind all of the houses on utility easements.

On the higher end are neighborhoods near Marvin and Waxhaw in Union Co in NC where the lots are large, however, there are not any neighborhood amenities.

As far as the schools go, I can't offer much info other than Fort Mill schools are some of the most desirable in the area.

My wife is a real estate agent in Rock Hill, SC. Clover has great schools, St. Anne's in Rock Hill is also very good. There are a couple of equestrian subdivisions in Clover and in Rock Hill. It depends on your price point. My wife could send you information. Her daughter is a Special Needs Teacher but currently is working at St. Philip Neri Church's Pre-school. She has heard that St. Anne's is a great school. My wife can also send you the names and numbers of all private schools in the Rock Hill area if you desire. Let us know.
