Coming from Oregon I miss soccer fields, parks, elementary schools within each neighborhood that you can walk, bike and drive to without having 30-45 minute backups just to drop off your kids and pick them up.

While there may not be parks in walking distance (keep in mind Fort Mill was mostly rural until its current transition to suburbia) there are a lot of recreational activities, parks, rec centers, a huge nature preserve, and a lot of parks on the outskirts.

I found it so odd when we moved to Charlotte that it's all subdivisions and the schools are not integrated - that virtually nobody could walk or ride bikes to school. It's sad - so much of my childhood happened on the way to school. I love that we do have recreation within walking/riding distance in Tega Cay. I'll put up with the school not being here because we do have so much here that doesn't require a car. If only we could have a coffee, soda, or ice cream shop that we could walk or ride to... Where do you have a 30-45 minute backup? Does it get that bad to pick kids up from school? (I don't know - my DD takes the bus to her afterschool care while I'm at work).

Why does everyone move to small rural towns to get away from the noise and the crime, and then complain about not having the very things that bring noise and crime to their town?

It's 3 bucks here...and IIsland Breeze Organic Market and Cafe opens in Baxter Village tomorrow. I have been doing a lot of my organic shopping at Harris Teeter. They carry a lot of products EXCEPT in their produce department which is where I want organics most.
