Fort Mill Sex Offenders (Lancaster, York: apartments, neighborhood, living in)

I'm biting the bullet on this subject...since it seems that some folks that are not familiar with the area are concerned with some of the stats they may see.

I personally feel very safe in the Fort Mill area....yet that just happens to be my own opinion...so below is a little research I did on the matter that hopefully will help others in some way?

To start with I would like to clarify that there is the Town of Fort Mill which has an apx. population of 8,000 within the corporate limits. Then there is also Fort Mill Township which is the unincorporated portion of York County with an apx. population of 40,000. These figures are just apx...as this area is growing rapidly.

Now I just went to the York County Sheriffs website and did a search on Sex Offenders using Fort Mill, SC as the location. It came back with a total of 50 sex offenders (which includes the Town of Fort Mill, and Fort Mill Township).

As I dug a little deeper this is what I found from those 50:

17) Have moved out of the State
25) Are Currently located within Fort Mill
1) Has Failed to Register
6) Are actually located in Indian Land, SC (Lancaster County)
1) is Incarcerated

So while there is an apx. population of 48,000 folks within Fort Mill (again the Town and Township) there are currently 25 Sex Offenders located here.

I might also add that 0 are listed as Sexual Predators.

Tega Cay, SC currently has no Sex Offenders (the one that is listed moved out of state years ago).

I thought the guy from the Peach Tree apartments next to the Bi Low was an offender with a 12 year old ( or at least that is what it said on the news) doesn't that make him a predator ?

I am not overly concerened- at least no more then anywhere else I would live. I think the way and extent things are reported can make any area seem better or worse but the truth is all you need is one person to ruin anothers life. Most offenders are someone you already know and most likely are not on any list - now that is what I think is scarry.

Oh trust me when I say I have my own definition of what a sex offender or sexual predator is (and what I would like to do with the whole lot)...but I was just trying to give a break down on what the site states for Fort Mill and then let folks draw their own conclusions.

In addition there's plenty of information out there on the internet giving the definition between the two (predator/offender)...just do a google search (using: South Carolina definition sexual predator)...and that alone is enough to make you sick to your stomach..with all that comes up along with it.

I certainly was not trying to downplay your post just pointing out that I certainly would not give much weight to those sites because while they may be helpful they are also very misleading especailly when you consider that most predators are somehow known to the family as a realitive or friend. Sort of makes your stomache churn.

I don't think the York County sheriff's website would be one of those misleading websites. But I do think that it's important to dig deeper into the statistics rather than just presume Fort Mill has a high percentage of sex offenders based on the initial statistics, as I said in the other thread on this topic.

But if given the choice of moving onto a street where a known sex offender lives and moving onto a street that doesn't, I'd choose the one that doesn't! Even if I DIDN'T have kids I wouldn't want to live next door to a sex offender of any kind.

That's why I'm glad I'm in FM now as opposed to NoNJ. I remember the first time I did a search in my town in NJ I FREAKED OUT because there were so many within a one-mile radius of my home, which was in a safer area of a decent-sized town!!

and thank you for bringing up your past thread...as I did happen to see it...yet as time goes on many of our answers to questions tend to get lost in the shuffle.

Hence the new thread...to bring this subject out in the open....now what one chooses to do with this information is their choice.

Wow, this is somewhat disturbing knowing there's a sex offender living in your neighborhood...let alone just a block away from you. Indian Land's not listed on that site though; doesn't make any sense.

Did anybody notice that most of the offenders are white males with only one female out of all the males. I never really thought of that, but it somewhat makes sense.
